There's a lot of complete bull crap in there, but one section I want to point out is near the bottom. Mr. Taylor claims the Prius gets 50 mpg, and the Insight gets 43 mpg highway. Then he claims the closest thing GM offers is the Cobalt, which he says gets only 25 mpg. The Cobalt does indeed get 25 mpg, in the city. Yes, he compaired two cars' highway mileage to a Chevy's city mileage, and passed this off as a fair comparison. This is exactly the source of GM's problems. Journalists give the public false impressions on INTENTIONALLY misleading statements. I hope you'll all join me in sending forceful responses to this dishonesty.

In the recent Alex Taylor Motor World article "GM Has More Troubles Than You Think," Mr Taylor compares the product offerings on Toyota, Honda, and GM. He states the Toyota Prius gets 50 mpg, the Honda Insight gets 43 mpg highway, and the Chevrolet Cobalt simply gets 25 mpg. The Chevrolet Cobalt indeed does get 25 mpg, in city driving. It gets 37 mpg on the highway. This statement is intentionally and shamelessly misleading. It is unfair, inaccurate, and unethical to compare efficiency metrics using different standards without expressly stating that difference. GM has many problems, many of its own making, but perhaps the biggest problem is a perception gap between the actual quality of its products and the quality perception held by the consumer. The media has played a large role in creating this gap, and misleading statements such as this one only worsen that gap. GM has made great strides in recent years in improving its product quality to meet or exceed that of its competitors. It deserves to be acknowledged for that. A prosperous, profitable, and competitive domestic auto industry is a key compenent of our national economy. Please do work against our auto industry with such blatant and unfounded bias towards foreign competitors.

I believe he was referring to the next gen Prius, which I think does get 50.

Did he take the time to mention the 8-6-4 Caddy or the Cimmaron? What a tool. Toyota Prius and it's batteries are an environmental catastrophy - that is a fact he can chew on and hopefully choke on as well.

Plus, it's CNN...who the hell believes anything they - OR ANY OTHER MEDIA OUTLET -has to say?

Seems like he loves to quote Consumer reports but also fails to mention that the Corvette Z06 and Chevy Avalanch are on it's best list....

Alex Taylor is the biggest pile of crap that has ever typed an article. I've sent him a TON of angry emails about his articles. He's been a GM hater ever since he started writing. I remember one article he wrote about the Volt in which he criticized its slow 0-60 time but then praised the prius in the very next paragraph.

Yet he claims he grew up loving GM and wanting to work for them. Sounds like he got burned once, grew bitter, and now holds a stupid grudge. I agree, total tool.
