Engine Oil Low - Add Oil on DIC
Car just started giving me this message on startup. I've never seen puddles under my car, my dipstick reads fine, oil seems just dark but not milky, and my pressure is good - around 30 at cold idle, then slowly lowers a little to about 27 once warm. I've read of the sensor dying on a few peoples cars. Was wondering if anyone dared to fix it themselves, or if they had it done by a shop how much it cost them. I bought an extra quart of oil, just in case

Well, at under 20 bucks, it's a cheap enough guess. Just wonder how difficult it is to get to, I've read it's on the passenger side of the block near the starter

Potentially stupid question.... I should drain the oil when I do this, right?

This car is from hell. I was never leaking oil, and my dipstick had oil on it (yes I wiped it off and reinserted to read levels, I'm not THAT dumb), all while the dic was warning me about low oil. Today I warmed my car up for about 10 minutes, go outside to get in and drive off, and notice a stream of black coming from under the car. It's like the car knew something was about to goof. Only leaks that much when the engine was running, after a 10 hour day only a small bit had leaked, so it's only under pressure that it leaks. Either I have a bad drain plug, or a crack in my oil pan... The oil that leaked was not milky, just dark, which is both good and understandable since the oil is 2k miles old.

If it's only leaking under pressure I would suggest looking at the oil filter and oil cooler. A cracked oil pan or loose plug would leak all the time. The sensor is on the right side of the oil pan. It's cream/white colored. The connector is only two wires and the sensor kind of surrounds the connector. It's difficult to disconnect, but can be done with a pocket screw driver.

Well gents, it was my oil filter being loose. This is the last time I ever trust a shop to do my changes. Normally i do my own, but my jack's piston was shot. Finally got a new one, and jacked up the car. Went to wipe off the filter since it was covered in oil, and the thing twisted just from the paper towl wiping it off! Tightened it, ran it for a half hour, held it at around 2500rpm for added pressure, and also have kept a board under it for the last two days, and no drips so far

That's why my motto is, if you can do it yourself, you should. I too have been disappointed by the "professionals".

Yeah, I usually live by that motto as well, or a slight variation of it "If you want it done right, do it yourself"
