drive shaft issues!!!

yesterday while taking a cruise i notice a loud banging noise kinda like someone was knocking underneath my drivers seat with a sledge hammer but only when i would take off from a complete stop out of 1st gear.. but any whooo to make a long story short it was the drive shaft output shaft that connects to the back of the trans the bolts came loose idk how that was able to happen mabe it was not tighten all the way from the factory there are 6 bolts total on the assembly 3 on the drive shaft and 3 on the output shaft the ones on the output shaft were loose i was able to tighten them back up at the shop but that could have been a total disaster if those bolts came out... but just wanted to pass it on to everyone else if u dont already know about it...

a while back i had a strange clunking noise from under the car too. it took the dealership a couple days to figure out what it was, but they ended up replacing the whole drive shaft.

I have 700 miles on my 2LT/RS auto and I noticed a clunking noise around 400 miles. It gets worse as I go faster and the other day I was in a parking garage and I could really hear it. Sounds like it's under the console. Is this the same thing y'all were hearing?

We have had two instances where the bolts in clients cars did this as well.

You can take some measurements and get better aftermarket units if needed. We have done this ala a client request and got some very nice hardware from Mcmaster Carr with much better strength.

Regards

It would be cool if you could post some specs or P/N's. I know I would be interested in them if my bolts fail a second time.

That's a known problem. Tighten them all you want they will still come loose with spirited driving. Do yourself a favour and replace the the driveshaft with a one piece. Driveshaft Shop makes a good one and your good to go.

Remember, these are single use items 'cuz they torque-to yield. So don't try to reuse them or ones out of someone else's car that aren't broken....
