Improving Automatic Exhaust Sound

I want to improve the note of my stock exhaust. Quite frankly its almost comical when my buddies say "hey start her up".....did you start it yet. Sure did...its in stealth mode. LOL

Anyways, has anyone removed just the midpipe resonators from the stock automatic exhaust system. I already have the AFM tuned out. Just curious if that will improve the note enough to warrant the change. I know I can do a muffler delete, etc. Looking to keep the stock mufflers for now.

Until I can $$ the full cat back I want.

Loose the suitcases they call mufflers.

Put in any axle back system. You will be happy.

ever thought about using the paddle shifters? can really manipulate how your car sounds.. Stock or not
and a muffler delete will do the trick, really loud but sounds great under low-medium throttle,
if you do a lot of full throttle/hard acceleration, do a res x pipe
quick note: so many people on the forum have a muffler delete/res x pipe, they will hopefully concur this

Well, I know you said you are looking to keep the stock mufflers but my car had muffler delete when I bought it and everything else is stock. I get lots of compliments on the sound of my car all the time. It's fairly quiet at cruising speeds but when you get on it it's great!! Good luck and do what's right for you!!

Just get a set of solo hi flow cats. They have a nice growl while leaving all your stock components in place. Plus they give you a bump in power. Get the ls3 cats. The l99s have a flex line on them to take up the vibrstion from the afm .But they leak over time ...since your afm is tuned out your good to go.Plus when you do get your catback it will sound even better.

why invest in 500 dollar hi-flo's when you can pay the shop like 50 to do a rear cat delete..

He said he wanted to keep his stock exhaust. Replacing the original cats with hi flows keeps everything intact. He said he didnt want to cut off the mufflers so you think he will chop off the cats. Maybe he has emissions to pass or maybe...just maybe he wont like the smell .Maybe you should offer some advice.

Agreed! Add some Solo HFC's and it will wake that beast up! The stock cats restrict the exhaust too much.

The paddle shifters do nothing for sound on a stock exhaust. He already said he wants to keep his mufflers. He also said he is looking at a catback exhaust so why spend money on a resonated x pipe now?

$50 bucks? What shop you go to there buddy? Most registered repair shops charge $55 and up an hour and usually have a minimum fee if under an hour. Some metal tubes to fill in would cost $ too.. why the hell would anyone buy a decent sports car and be so cheesy and cheap IDK

If you're looking to remove the resonator, it's worth it if you can get it done cheap. I had to go to three different exhaust shops before someone give me a fair price of 50 bucks. It's not that hard for them to do as its two metal pipes. If you plan on buying a catback later on down the road then this is one of the cheapest mods you can do to liven it up.

It's the mufflers, change them and the difference will be night and day. You'll love it. Keep those trash cans and you'll always hate the sound.
