Question for anyone who has driven the v6 model

I have been reading the board for a long time now, but finally decided to post. I was hoping someone could give me some insight to help me decide what to order.

Background- I currently own a 94 z8, with the lt1. It's my daily driver. While I love the car, its going need to be replaced soon. When i do complain about it, its usually about comfort and practicality, not performance. I am trying to decide between a 1ss and a 2lt rs. The initial numbers we have for the v6 model looks like it will accelerate about as well as my 94 z28. However, it also looks like the ss will be a far more daily driver freindly than my z28. I am leaning towards the 2lt rs based on number3's statements.

question- I have a few concerns about the v6. Specifically, the one piston breaks and the lack of an lsd on the automatic version. I was wondering if anyone who has driven the v6 could compare its performance to a 4th gen z28. It looks like it will accelerate about as well as a lt1, while having much better mpg and a much more comfortable ride. I really want to know how its performance handling and braking compare. I find the braking on my 94 to be inadequate and definatly want something better.

Thanks to anyone who can answer.

I haven't driven a new one obviously, but I will say that the V6 should be running 0-60 in around 5.9 seconds and the 1/4 mile in the low 14's at around 95-98mph I am guessing.

An Lt1 depending on transmission and gears (2.73 and 3.23 in auto, 3.42 in the 6 speed) should average 13.9-14.3 at around 95-100mph on average if it is running good, with 0-60 times in the 5.5 second area.

That said.. the V6 should be very similar in performance numbers to the AVERAGE STOCK LT1 car, however as for performance "feel" if you go from your LT1 to the V6 it is not going to "feel" as fast, being the amount of torque the LT1 produces at low RPM's gives it that raw power feel, whereas the V6 in the new camaro will be a smooth, high revving engine with most of its power at high rpms.

So in the overall "feel" of the new V6 camaro's performance compared to an LT1 I can say my guess is that the LT1 is going to feel more powerful...which it is across the power curve especially in torque...but when it comes down to it they will both run similar times at the track so their "Actual" peformance will be quite similar.

I have owned 2 LT1 camaro's and an LS1 Trans Am.. and right now even I would consider a 2LT RS Camaro for the refinement, handling, comfort, style, etc....... The new camaro is going to be ahead of all previous camaro's in every aspect, so it just comes down to V6 or V8 which equates to a matter of what you want to use the car for, how much you want to spend and whether you want to run low 14's in the 1/4 mile or if you want to run low 13's high 12's in the 1/4 mile with the car right off the showroom floor.

Well If one piston breaks on either a V8 Or V6 You are going to need a new Engine....

Now if you are talking about One Piston Brakes that is another matter.. But from what I have read the brakes on the LS and LT models are more than adaquate.. But if you need all that stopping power go with the SS...

Ya I should have mentioned the braking as well,

LT1 brakes simply stated SUCK.. the LS1 brakes were WAY better, however the basic brakes on this car should be even better than the LS1 Camaro's were, with the Brembo's being WAY WAY better, lol.

My last LT1.. 96 Z28, had been upgraded to 4 piston Wilwood Brakes on the front and that car STOPPED compared to the 94 Z28 I had.. Honestly anything compared to the stock LT1 brakes are going to be a lot better than you are used to, so I wouldn't worry to much.. once they are at dealers go drive one and find out for yourself, which should answer your questions on power, handling, comfort and any other question/concern you might have
