possible leather issues??

hey, i know many of you will say this is a stupid thread and in the wrong place but i have to say this. today i was cleaning my 07 chevy and noticed that the leather at the side edges was a bit worn out like scratched(should the leather be scratched if you don't do something stupid)?...I was so pissed of because the truck is only 2 years now and i don't even drive it that often, i was really disapointed of the quality and i really hope they have changed the quality for the camaro... does anyone else has this same expirience?

sorry but i just didn't know where to express my anger i would have placed this thread on the other forum for other cars but i wanted more people to see it here. thanks

I've had my Equinox for over 3 years and my seats look brand new. Then again, I take particularly good care of my vehicle including treating the leather once a year.

well i have had my truck for 3 years and the leather is still AMAZING, related topic, i am in construction so i have had concrete, mud, drywall joint compound, and silicone caulking on my seats and they are in fantastic shape and have been very resiliant

On the downer side, I wore through the leather on the outside edge (door side) of the driver's seat in my 96 Z-28 from getting in and out of the car over the 8 years I owned it. That being said, knowing about the Z-28, I took the time to move the seat all the way back in my 04 GTO before exiting the vehicle and after 4 years it showed very little wear on the same edge.

After only two years, wouldnt it still be under Warranty?

I had a problem with my cloth seats wearing out on my G5 after only 2 years and it got replaced no problem. Now there are no problems whatsoever.

I noticed the same wear on my '96 Z28 many years ago. From then on I've been very careful getting in and out of the car. But, it has still gotten worse over the years, even with careful cleaning and conditioning. It has turned me away from leather seats permanently.

I have an '07 Ava too and I have the same problem. For the first while it's really just dirt accumulating on the outer seam of the outside seat cushion bolster (my seats are tan). Believe it or not if I wear jeans for a few days in a row the colour transfers a bit But a good quality leather cleaner takes it off. After a while though the leather wore on the seam to the point that the colour of the leather itself was coming off (like it was scratched off as you say). I complained and they replaced that panel but told me that GM warranty only covers that sort of thing once for each seat/vehicle and only in the 1st 3 years. Otherwise it's considered normal wear & tear. (BS?) Mine only had 40K on the clock when I complained.

I've chalked this up to sliding out of the driver's seat rather than steping on the running board and "standing up" out of the seat. Either way it's disappointing given that I otherwise love the seats. GM's leather has always been substandard as far as I'm concerned. hate to say it but Chrysler's leather was some of the best I've seen (10 years ago anyway). I'm hoping that standing up out of my camaro seats will prolong their life. Plus black leather doesn't show the wear nearly as bad.

leather wears, period.

The worst thing for leather seats?

Denim!

Very abrasive -- esp. with rivets -- or when you have a wallet in the back pocket -- it gets worse when you have to raise yourself UP into the interior (as you would do with a truck) -- or drop DOWN into the interior (as you would with a Camaro or Corvette --) Making things worse is that when your 'kiester' finally impacts the leather, you swing around to pull your legs in -

Suggest that you treat the leather surfaces with Armor-all LEATHER treatment (do not mistake for regular armor-all) or any quality leather conditioner (Zaino or such).....

I use the armor all leather stuff, works good for me. My malamute sometimes rides in the back of the car and his huge claws dont scratch the leather (or vinyl on the sides) of our '06 DTS. Yeah I know lots of pple freak out about a dog in a car like that but I love cleaning it and I love my dog even more so its worth it to me lol! Armor all leather cleaner and a lint roller thing on the headliner and its like he was never there hehe.

They may argue it's normal wear and tear that were knowing your service guy may help you.

Kanys, I understnd, I have a Huskey and I plan on taking him in the car and using leather cleaner on it to keep in it to keep it in good shape. Also using a blanket on the back seat.
