Should aftermarket wheels be torqued to stock wheel specs?
Just wondering if I should torque my aftermarket wheels to stock specs which is 140ftlbs or if I should stay around 100 ftlbs since its aftermarket?

Use the same spec for aftermarket.
That seems high, but... I guess it is 140 http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33139

Where exactly did you see 140lbs at? That is extremely high, 100lbs is optimum for that thread. Over tightening can be as dangerous as not tightening enough. I'd be interested to see what said 140lbs....wow!

I still torque all my lugs to 100 ft-lbs. Even though 140 ft-lbs is written, it does seem excessive. I've never had one work itself loose before, ever, while using a torque wrench.

I've never used an air gun or a torque wrench for the lugs on a decent car. Old fashioned criss-cross lug wrench. Never had a lug loosen, never warped a rotor. After 40 years of doing it, you just know how tight it needs to be. I use the German torque spec for wheels.

The manual says 140, I torque mine to 140. Don't know where the thread is, but a member told a story of how he was driving his suburban on the highway after rotating tires (didn't torque to spec) and all of a sudden his driver's side front wheel popped off and his rotor hit the pavement. Pretty terrifying story to read. I'm happy being safe than sorry. It doesn't take much extra to go from 100 to 140.

I am currently doing 100 and have been. I too think 140 is not much more. I usually put my air impact on lowest setting and it only takes a 1/4 turn to get 100ftlbs from there. Looks to be some different opinons here so Ill just decide what I want to do.

I have custom 3-piece forged aluminum with racing forged aluminum lug nuts and I have mine on at 90 lbs of torque. I do not use an impact wrench; hand tighten them with a torque wrench.

Doc, You are the lightness king! Have you noticed any trouble with your forged aluminum lugs? I did a lot of searching and found that the vast majority of forged aluminum lugs were for smaller lighter cars. I am not sure if I would trust them on our 3800 lb vehicles, but I love the idea of losing unsprung rotational weight. Very interested in you opinion of them since you have camaro experience with them.
