Those parts alone will not void your warranty. The tune that goes along with them will void your warranty though.

Simple answer... Yes
If you remove the stock cats, your warranty is dead.

You need to talk to your dealership. Many dealerships will not void your warranty (except the exhaust warranty) for having just headers, high flow cats, and catback. One of our local dealership will fix pretty much anything (engine and tranmission included) on your car if your only mods were an intake and full exhaust.

But we have another dealership near where I work that isn't so mod friendly. I've learned not to go to them for anything other than an oil change.

Those items will not void your warranty until you tune.... and you will have to tune eventually to bring out the full potential of the headers and hi flow cats.

You can avoid the tune for awhile, but your check engine light will be on until you tune and more than likely you will run lean.

Just got back from my dealership and I'm little confused by what he said. I asked him if i got headers, would it void the warranty, he said if i got the GM performance headers then it would not but if i got headers from anyone else, more than likely it would.

Does that make any sense?

Yes, but GM does not make headers for the 5th gen.

I see a thread like this almost every time I log onto Camaro5.

Can we address this "my warranty is my salvation" mentality? If you want extra power, you probably have to do something to your car to get it. Would you rather have the power or the warranty. Everything you do to your car carries some risk.

Let's look at exhausts for a moment. Do you think anyone in your dealership's service department cares that you changed one pipe for another pipe that's bigger? In reality, all an exhaust does if pipe air to the back of the car, and that pipe, for all the engineering that goes into materials, bending them, and making them sound good, there really isn't much to putting a pipe under your car. It isn't hard to do, and it doesn't really go into the heart of what makes your car move. In surgical terms, putting an exhaust on your car is like changing your shirt. It doesn't break the surface.

Let's look at doing a camshaft. If you install a camshaft to get that loping sound and the power that comes with it, you're looking at doing some expensive engineering. You've got to figure out what kind of power curve you want and tune your car to follow this curve. In surgical terms, this is like getting open-heart surgery. You've got to take your engine, the heart of the car, apart to put a new internal piece into it.

Now, let's compare. Which is a bigger deal: changing your shirt or getting open-heart surgery? I'm thinking GM's warranty team is a lot more concerned with open-heart surgery and how it impacts the long-term durability of your car. In other words, you do something big and you lose your warranty coverage.

That's only fair. GM spent a long time on the Camaro. If you think it isn't good enough, then it's up to you to change it. Any changes you make are not from GM; therefore, any changes you make cannot be covered by GM. If you change the exhaust, GM won't cover that exhaust. If you change the engine, expect to be responsible for anything that breaks because your entire powertrain is vulnerable.

Finally, let's discuss the ability of the Camaro to handle abuse. This car is remarkable. GM backed it with the most comprehensive limited warranty in the industry. GM knows that we're going to the track with these cars, and they want us to continue doing so. Camaro chief engineer Al Oppenheiser, when asked about modifications during the Chicago Auto Show, said that he wants us beating other cars at the track. That being said, he can't take responsibility for you supercharging your car or replacing the engine block because his job isn't to speak for every part out there, just the ones his team decided to use on the Camaro. When you change those parts, you are no longer driving his creation, and you can no longer expect his company to cover you when it breaks.

mr. moderator, maybe a sticky in the bolt on section would be a good idea, in terms of people asking about warranty. i see it all the time also. if its a very popular topic in this section.

Absolutely not. Get that in writing, because the only way (THE ONLY WAY) that can be true is if they provide the parts FREE of charge. It's a law. A warranty writer cannot exclude aftermarket parts in favor of their own parts, unless and only if they offer those parts free to the customer. It's a federal law.
