Update: My Camaro vandal has been identified!

So a while ago my Camaro was keyed to the metal ALL down the drivers side, the entire length. Then my jeep had a shorter key scratch to the metal, and so did about EIGHT other cars in my parking lot.

Anyways, my landlords put up a new fence around the perimiter, and while they were doing this someone from the next street over said a kid was bragging to them about keying cars and said "What are they gonna do, put me in juvie?". the kid used wire cutters to scratch the cars.

he also broke into a garage and scratched a bike, which belongs to a member of the local Harley club.

I think my next step is to get a written statement from the person he confessed/bragged to, then go from there as far as suing to get money to fix the scratches. I'm not sure if I'll spend the time and energy trying to press charges, I think i'd be better off just looking for money. If anyone has any advice though please fill me in!

(At first I was furious and called my landlords. I mentioned installing security cameras for the parking lot. They said they won't, and I was pissed at first but their explanation made sense, that they set up cameras in the parking lots at one of their other apt buildings but they cant have cameras right next to cars so they never pick up the persons' faces, so when they give the tapes to the cops they cant do anything.)

I would pursue going after the kid. You may be doing someone else a favor by following up with it. Hopefully the punk won't retaliate.

Make sure he goes to jail. He needs to learn a lesson, and if that don't work teach him one.

+1

If you get a signed statement (which in the best case scenario is a notarized statement) I would file and press charges on the kid. I'd go this route for two reasons:
1) if you don't press charges what is to stop him from doing it again?
2) If he is found guilty then he will have to pay for the damages anyway. May as well get two birds with one stone. You'll also probably have better luck getting the kid/kid's parents to pay up if you have the law behind you.

years ago, a couple of kids where walking behind one of my buildings on the RR tracks. We saw them, saw who it was, as soon as they where out of sight, several large rocks came our way and hit a couple of cars. We ran to the otherside of the building and saw them run away. We went to the prosecuter
who told us we didn't have a snowballs chance in hell because we didn't actually see them throw the rocks.

Since then, I NEVER call upon the law to make things right......

just be VERY smart about it.....

If he is underage good luck... Stupid kids here at 15 underaged can drive drunk, have drugs on them, and all they had to do was write a letter of sorrow to the cops who caught them because they were to young to go to jail. But I would do the best I could to stop him from doing it again...

That's true. Find a bigger, badder kid to tune him up for a few bucks.

I recently bought this system at Sams Club and installed it at my house...

You can tie the camers into your computer and set them us as motion sensors to activate and record for anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes and save it to your hard drive.

Probably could be more satisfaction in finding out who it is, then covertly catch him out and crush both his hands with a hammer. Then, after his parents have to wipe his ass for the next couple of months, they might all see the light. Sometimes swift and blinding violence is the only way.

Even if they are juveniles, you can sue their parents for the damages. They are still responsible for the actions of their children.

Ie. if a pit bull dog attacks someone, they are held liable. Same for their children.
