13.0 @ 111 mph?

I was real curious to how Car and Driver, Motortrend, and Edmunds all came up with the same 1/4 mile time or 13.0 @ 111mph?

That just doesn't happen. Am I missing something? Are these times based off the same test?

But I'm happy with the time. A 111 mph trap speed will put you easily in the 12s with a decent launch off the line.

That MPH is 12.3-12.5 ET with DR...The auto with a 3000-3200 stall will conisistently smoke the M6 in the 1/4...I say consistently, because it will take a high rpm clutch drop, with perfectly rowwed gears everytime, to out ET the auto...And the auto should provide clockwork repeatability.

Remember, it's being reported by an automobile magazine.

I think we've all see that what they right/report has to be taken with some skepticism.

I'm betting the actual numbers are lower.

actually, they all got similar times but different mph... for instance, Edmunds got 13.0@110.9... they just round up or down depending on the magazine.

and launch control makes it easier for them make consistent times, too.

Exactly. I did 12.5@108 easily in a similar weight/hp spec'd Camaro.

true, cept most the mags said they didn't use the launch control. They got better times on their own. Any of those low times high MPH weren't with launch control on IMO.

Wait till GMHTP gets ahold of one w/some Drag Radials in some cool spring air and a Michigan tuner gets hold of the ECU and some rear gear for the heavy Beast!. . . Project 5th gen I already see it coming . . .

Stock driveline w/ tweaks and gears 12.50's 113-114
then a Diet:

Base cloth 1SS..... no hole in the roof(45lbs), No zenon ballasts(12lbs), no sound system/amps(20-25lbs), ditching the questionable looking steering wheel/airbag on Ebay for a cool Momo race wheel (4 pounds), delete all the other half dozen litigation airbags and deployment mechanisms at a nice resale profit to a body shop(15-18lbs maybee more?), heavy matted sound deadening from firewall-trunk(40lbs), remove the completely useless insurance company mandated 2.5mph crash breams front and back(25-35lbs), spare/jack(30lbs) trunk interior paneling(4-6lbs), use a mini battery(15-20lbs), ditch the heavy, sandcast, made in Taiwan 20's for some light 3 piece 18" or 19" wheels(20lb savings total)....overall try and get 200-250lbs off the car down near 3500-3600 like a Mustang.

Keep in Mind the magazine cars are tarted up 2SS's w/heated leather, Boston Acoustics subwoofers, and a 45lb power sunroof cars and tipping in w/ loaded fuel tanks around 3850-3900 trapping 111mph!!!!!

If mags are getting 13.0's at 100-111mph, then you WILL see 12's from a stone stocker in the hands a someone more familiar with the car(the owner)and on better racetracks.

This is what I think. They said the LS1 Camaro/TA's were 13.4 cars and they ran 12.8-12.9 all day.

Slightly off topic and slightly on topic - whats a 98 mph trap good for as far as ET?

14.4 seems a bit slow for that trap if you ask me, but I could be wrong.

Show me a major car magazine test where a production (non-tuner/Firehawk etc.) 4th gen ran faster than 13.0 in the quarter. These are journalists driving. The new cars will do better in the hands of owners who know how to drive.

For better or for worse, GM's objectives with this car are not the same as the 4th gen. It's not built for maximum bang-for-buck speed. GM built it for style and image, GM just needs it to be "fast enough" to keep up with the competition, and sell with the public. And GM doesn't want it competing too much with the Corvette.
