Street Parking?
Hi All,
Considering a V6 as my next car. Obviously, gonna test drive some comparable cars when the time comes. My question is, I live in a suburban, yet somewhat crowded, area in New Jersey. I don't have a driveway (let alone a garage!), do you think it's cool to park a new Camaro in the street? To give you an idea on my block, it's a wide street, there are always spots (most of the houses have driveways) and you can park overnight in the street. But, it gets high traffic at certain times (mornings when people take kids to school is a good example). What do you think? Safe? Wait til I get a place with a driveway? |

The only thing I'd park on a street in Jersey would be a beater.

I live in an suburban area where a lot of people park on the street too, and I don't think there's any way I'd ever park a nice car like a Camaro out there. I can't even tell you how many times I've seen cars get hit by people who don't know how to park correctly. You probably care a lot about your car, problem is some other guy parking his beater in front of yours probably doesn't care quite as much.

Thanks for the replies. My neighbor next door has a Cadillac he parks in the street, a guy down the block has a G35, so it's not unprecedented on the block to park nice stuff.
Right now, I have a beater But, my next car will definitely be something nice. In a perfect world, I'd have a garage to put it in.Perhaps my real question is, do I hold off on getting the car I really want based on my circumstances? A V6 Maro with the risk of someone scratching it or get something pedestrian that I wouldn't enjoy driving? I guess it's a risk/reward situation. Face it, I could get hit by a bus or something, would've really wished I had a Camaro before biting the dust, even if someone scuffed up my door. |

I'd walk a distance before I parked mine on the street. And I bet someone with a driveway would take about 50 bones per month for driveway access.
Let's face it, a Camaro isn't excactly a luxury car. But I know most on here will treat it as such, I know I will. My wife and kids will be lucky if I allow them to chew gum while riding. Remember that Shania Twain song? I'll be that guy who makes her take off her shoes before I let her get in. I MIGHT even kiss my car at night. |

Until you move into place with garage/drive, if you could afford to, I would consider renting out one of those storage garages to park her in, and hang on to your beater as daily driver....Camaro will be tucked safely away, you can take it out on weekends, nice evenings, keep the mileage down, and have it for years. No worries about scrapes, theft, or vandalism.

I would:
1. Get the STANDARD wheels- not optional ones, and 2. Get low deductible collision and comprehensive insurance on the car so if it is stolen/vandalized you can get reimbursed. In spite of all the love going around Camaro5 for these cars, it is not an expensive car and if you don't have a garage, that's not a reason not to buy the car. |

Cyberfan, good advice!
Also, good advice from others on garage rentals, etc, thanks! I honestly hadn't thought about hanging on to my beater and trying to go that route. Definitely going to make this a consideration. Haha Shania Twain! |

Or put in a driveway[unless you rent- but the owner might use what you spent on improvements towards your rent due]. They don't cost that much.

I think it should be fine, just keep on the look out. Actually check your neighbors cars and see if they have any scratches from people who cant park or by pedestrians who just want ot be @$$holes, if not, then buy yourself a new Camaro!
