Removing a 2013 SS shift knob?

I've seen the posts about this and some really good ones at that, but does anyone know of a video showing this? When I try to turn the collar it just feels like I'm going to break it as a lot of people have done. That's with applying pressure up and down. Any help would be cool, thanks.

Lift it up a little then twist it ccw and slide down. If you turn it before lifting up I imagine it would feel like it's going to break. If you look at pics of a shifter you will be able to see the path it has to travel

How hard do I have to turn before it gives? By counter clockwise you mean to the left correct? Cause it feels like I'm going to break it

You can see the profile its supposed to travel, if you look at it from above it is counter clock wise, kind of unnatural b/c the CCW motion moves it down instead of up. You shouldn't have to apply that much pressure to remove it

Thanks for the pic and replies. I guess I'll give it another try tomorrow morning it just doesn't seem to give. All else fails I'll just break the damn thing off.

From the pic of the knob it appears you push DOWN on the knob, turn RIGHT and let it come up. Unless I'm up too early and my mind doesn't have enough coffee yet.

That style knob has a screw (13s and up). The 10s and 11s and 12s do not.

Look for the screw and that may be the game changer for ya...

The knob doesnt move until after the boot is slid out of the way and the set screw is removed, then it goes straight up. The cut out is for the ring on top of the boot to go in

I gave it another whirl and finally got the boot off this morning. I was grabbing the ring like a baseball bat and pulling up while turning. After looking at the pictures I pulled up on the ring where it locks in place only and out it came. Thanks again.

Ah, got it. The outer cut is for the boot ring. Makes sense.
