The Chromatic Camaro Game
The Chromatic Camaro Game (with Cliff Notes version below)
I traveled to Virginia last Thursday. Driving my 3 week old SIM convertible with the top down the entire way, made the 9 hour drive a lot more bearable. After a while I began watching for C5’s and waved to any I spotted. And to keep myself occupied I played the Chromatic Camaro Game – trying to spot all the colors of C5 Camaros. Spotted first C5 mid morning near Knoxville – VR coupe and a SW Coupe shortly after. On I-81, I passed by a southbound BLK Coupe (with White or Silver rally stripes, wasn't sure which). Later, around Abingdon, I passed an IOM Coupe with white rally stripes, and a bit further up the road a SIM Coupe with black rally stripes (a VERY sharp looking vehicle, but a bit more conservative than my topless one). I wasn't certain how many C5's I was expecting to see, but I was surprised that along that trip up there so far, I had not seen a duplicate color on the road. When I arrived in Harrisonburg, VA, I noticed a CGM Coupe on a used car lot, adding to the color streak. But it somehow made me sad to see it parked there anxiously awaiting a new owner that would appreciate the beauty and power that it held and would also take it out for spins "just 'cause". On the return trip Sunday spotted a SGM Coupe to start the day off about the same time that I hit 2011 miles on the odometer near Natural Bridge! And later on the Virginia Tech campus, spotted a RJT and RY with black rally stripes. Heading back to Interstate spotted an IBM with white rallys. Come on ABM! I know you are one of the rarities, but you can show yourself! Onward. Into Knoxville. I began thinking ..."KnoxCamaro5! Where the hell are you?!?!?!?" (I know you have an ABM and live there ... why couldn't you help me win the Chromatic Camaro Game?) But ... it wasn't to be. I never did see an ABM on the trip, though I suppose that since I haven't seen another C5 Camaro yet, I still have a shot at winning the game. Hopefully some of the folks in the C5’s I saw that day are members and will see this. If I happened to miss any other C5's out there due to focusing on traffic, etc, please forgive me for not waving and acknowledging your great tastes in vehicles.

Heh heh!
Cliff Notes version ($3.50 please).... Chromatic Camaro Game - find all the main C5 colors without duplicates Results of Trip in order seen: VR SW BLK IOM SIM CGM return trip: SGM RJT RY IBM VR (duplicate of starting car, so streak alive) Unable to find an ABM on trip - all the fault of KnoxCamaro5 not going for a drive at the right time. |

My family used to play a similar game on road trips called "yellow car".
Each yellow car you call = 1 point. Each purple car you call = 2 points. Commercial vehicles don't count and put you in the penalty box if you accidentally call them, which means you must wait until the next person scores to play again. Pink cars = Bonus round: Next car is worth double points for anyone, or triple for the one who spotted the pink car. ---- We have recently modified this to a Camaro version since I ordered my car... Call a 5th Gen = 1 point. Yellow 5th Gen = 2 points. Green 5th Gen = 3 points. Call a Mustang a Camaro = Lose 2 points. Call a Challenger a Camaro = Lose 1 point. Any other foul = Penalty Box. Only way to get out of the penalty box and play again is to spot a Camaro from another generation (i.e. 4th gen) ![]() Great fun for roadtrips, but consider making a rule that the car must be in motion to keep people from scanning parking lots or dealerships when their eyes should be on the road!
