Same happens to myself.. The way the sensors detect objects is like a V projection field. The sensors think the sides of the garage door rails are behind it causing it to go nuts.. think of the sensor like a rear headlight.. it projects out to the sides like a v

Keep in mind the sensors not only detect directly to the rear, but to the side a bit as well.
When I back out of my driveway, If I get a bit close to the fence on the left side or the house on the right side, It'll let me know right quick even though there is nothing directly behind me.

the sensors detecting things on an angle will come in handy if you are going in reverse with your wheels turned.

If your garage is anything like mine it probably emits some kind of laser or some other kind of beam that will turn on the light on the door or stop the door from going down if something crosses its path. Even if I park in the middle of my garage the sensors will go off so what I think is happening is the sensors are detecting the beam somehow and thinks its a solid object. Works the way its supposed to anywhere else so it doesn't bother me.

Mine picks up trees next to the driveway as I back out. I've just gotten used to it but I don't rely on them.

i wouldn't rely on them solely, but they do in fact work and i wouldnt ignore them either.

mine goes off like crazy when i back out my garage also, and normally i ignore it. Then one day, there actually was a car behind me. I kept looking at the driver side mirror at the side of the garage opening cuz i pretty close to it. Ended up tapping my moms car who came over to visit.
no damage was done, i was moving under 3mph and was wondering why the sensors were still going off after i cleared the garage. Never saw the car behind me either.

if you take a look at your sensors, you can see they are pointed at different angles. You can prob adjust them if u take the bumper off.
