Blacktop Nationals, 8/26-8/29 Wichita, KS

I figured I better start this one early... The Blacktop Nationals is returning to Wichita for the second year. This even pulls in hundreds of cars and thousands of people. It has events for just about every kind of gearhead out there and was a blast last year.

This year we plan on entering our car in the car shows and the cruise in Park City. I was going to see how many other would be interested in doing this.

The car show is 2 parts, a judged & non-judged portion. It is $25 for the non-judged and $40 for the judged. I am checking with them to see if the two groups park together, or if they are separate (I imagine separate). Depending on the response and group we could potentially put together I would be in for either group.

Here is a link that has more information. Blacktop Nationals

Let me know what you think and who all would be interested in this. I think it would be a good event to showcase those beautiful 5th gen Camaros!

I'd consider it...though the car is bone stock, at the moment. I'd drive up and have a look around with you, though.

Sounds good to me, my car should be cosmetically done (minus hood and wheels). Depends what I have going on once this upcoming semester starts and has planned for me.

I like the Winner from last year

2000 – 2011 1st Ron DeCarlo ( Camero SS 2010)
2nd Ricky Gile ( Mustang 2010)
3rd Jim Thomas ( Shelby GT 2007)

I wouldn't worry about it. Ron's Camaro won last year and I believe it was a stock SS too. Besides... power in numbers is always a good thing :

At some point we will have to determine what everyone wants to do. Do we want to enter the judged car show or the non-judged car show. It is a $15 difference in cost.

Personally I like the idea of the judged show, but if no one else is up for it I understand.

I went ahead and entered our car in the judged portion of the show. From what I understand judged & non judged do park seperately. I figured for the extra $15 it would be interesting to see what others thought of it.

Tomorrow (8/14) is the last day to register online. So far from what I can tell I dont know whatthe benefits are to pre-registering are. Possibly just making it quicker to get in on Friday.

Hey Superfly, I am planning on entering judged class on Sat. I didn't get preregistered as I am not always off work on weekends, so wasn't sure if I would be off, still don't know. But, what class did you enter? I don't see a modern class listed anymore, just 1973 and newer GM? Hope to see you there!

There is a 1995 & up class and the 73 & up GM too I believe. I left mine blank so I will probably have to do that on Friday.

OK... here are my thoughts on meeting up for Blacktop... Below is a link to the schedule for reference. please feel free to chime in if anyone has a better idea on anything. I am up for anything...

Blacktop Nationals Schedule

I think we all agree would be a good idea for all of us to park together. The two versions of the car show (judged & non-judged) will park separately. It sounds like most are going for the judged portion of the show. If not it is ok, we will just have to have 2 sections of beautiful Camaros...

With that being said we can gather somewhere before registration opens and all go in together. I am thinking the Wichita Ice Center would be a good spot. A few of us met there before Automobilia and it worked really well.

Friday - Registration opens at 10:00. How about meeting in the Wichita Ice Center parking lot at 9:45 and heading to registration as a group from there.

Saturday
- Registration opens @ 9:00. I know at least a couple that will have to register on Saturday, so I am thinking that we all meet at the Wichita Ice Center @ 8:45 and head over to registration together so we can go in together.

Saturday Night Cruise
- If there is anyone that wants to do the cruise, but doesn't want to show, I was thinking we could meet at the truck stop off of 53rd in Park City and go over to Alef's from there as a group. After doing this last year I would think that we should meet up at the truck stop by 6:00-6:15 with the cruise starting at 7:00.

Sunday
- Same routine, with the show opening at 10:00, meet at the Ice Center at 9:45.

I am really looking forward to this and hope it is as much participating as it was attending last year.

None of this is set in stone and I am open to any ideas anyone else has.

I haven't checked the Midwest section in a while, so I'm kind of late to the show (no pun intended ).

I was planning on entering again, but I'm not sure if I'll get it back from the dealer in time to get it cleaned up to show standards.....or even get it back by the weekend for that matter .

And yeah, with the exception of a Volant intake & SLP's retro "SS" badges, I was completely stock last year.

Sounds good Ron... I sent you a PM with my number in case you are running late and need us to save a spot (if we are allowed).

I hope you get the car back and cam make to defend your title!
