Hertz Traction Control

I am taking a buddy of mine, who has been on the verge of buying a new SS (Getting married, new house, wife wants kids etc), to Vegas for his Bachelor party and I just rented an SS Convertible from Hertz.

What I want to know: Are we going to be able to do smokey burnouts or is the car going to have a semi-permanent traction control built into it? If so is this something that a simple fuse removal will rectify or is it going to limit the power once the fuse is pulled.

Has anyone actually driven one of these Hertz cars, and is anyone familiar enough with the traction control system to walk me through a simple fix if necessary/possible. (I built my first small block when I was eleven, I have been around cars my whole life, am a mechanical engineer, and have built two kit planes. Im not a genius or a know it all, but I do know the limits of my own knowledge and the new Camaro is unfamiliar territory for me. Im just looking for some pointers in the right direction)

I don't think the traction control will be any different. I know rental camaro's can be driven at high speeds and used to jump train tracks. Seen it on youtube. The end results weren't good, though. Make sure you get extra insurance.

Im sure it comes with a manual inside the glove box. Check it out.

I believe all Camaros have the traction control button on the center console by the shifter. You can either push it to turn it on/off. Or hold it for 7 seconds in order to engage the full fun of no traction at all!

#1 reason why you never buy a used rental car no matter how cheap they are! lol

Although I do not blame you, i rented a mustang (because the camaro was not available) and I gave it a good 'testing'.

Hertz puts in a permanent traction control device that won't allow the car to get over 70 or break traction. You don't want to rent one, they're no fun!

Maybe I can save one Camaro, right? Be gentle

Lol, don't worry guys its not the first time either of us has been behind the wheel. Hes got an 81 Z28 thats been restored and built, puts 465 out at the flywheel, and I drive an 06 CTSV. Im going to drive it like it were my own car. The point is that if your not going to roast the tires a little and get on it hard, there's no point in renting or driving the ss, you might as well rent the v6 or an impala for that matter. Were not going to jump it or trash it, just want to enjoy it the way it was meant to be enjoyed.

Thanks for the input guys! Any more clarification would be greatly appreciated!

Wow...2 posts and you want to know how to do burnouts in a rental? Not good... not good....

Please be safe and make sure your buddy can make it to his wedding alive and not in a wheelchair....and yes, that is genuine concern...

My buddy rented one a couple months ago and was shocked at how under powered it seemed. He had ridden in mine several times and it was way different. I'm pretty sure it was either de-tuned or (more likely) it had been using the wrong gas.

low octane gas was probably the culprit
