recent paint

I just had stripes painted and they cleared the hood and trunk. I asked the paint shop how long until I can put the cover on it. He said I could cover it right away.

I though I heard you should wait to cover it. Has anyone else covered their car soon after painting?

Well, from what I have read here recently it depends on if the shop that did the stripes baked the paint to speed up the curing process. The paint needs time to off-gas. I had my stripes painted back in August and I'm still waiting to wax the car. Obviously, a car cover is not going to seal the paint like wax will, but I would think the cover could keep the gases from escaping during the curing process.

Car covers should allow air and paint fumes to escape (they are breathable, at least the good ones). Why the need to cover so quickly though?

The GM cover states not to cover for three months after new paint.

If he did the work I wouldn't second guess him, and in the event something does go wrong as a result of what he told you then you'd think he'd be responsible for fixing it.

Well I know he didn't bake it. My garage is a little dusty so I like to cover it. I'll probably wait until about 30 days before I put the cover on it.
