Stall Converter for Road Course

Which specs should I be looking at?

A true stalled converter will not allow for proper engine braking and is not reccomended for road racing. It is a acceleration aid/mod. That said we can build you a tougher version of the stock unit that will work well as far as durability on the course.

Sounds like a bad idea.

Also seems to me if someone is RR'ing an auto car, you'd maybe go and get a custom tune that modifies the downshifts. Know what I mean? I can explain if you like.

Higher stall and road course don't go together. It would just make it more difficult for you to control the power (rpms). That would cause all kinds of issues on a road course.

You could do it, but it would be counter productive.

Not the expert on converters- my first Muscle car in Automatic.
So make the stock one stronger. I was looking for something that would keep her in a better RPM range. Is that all done in the tune?

Tune will do a ton for the road coarse. PM Phil at Tampa Tuning, one of the better FL based for the A6 trans tuning. You will be impressed.

Hmmm , my L99 downshifts very well and quickly. Strange how many complain that tapshift isn't fast enough. I did as well until about 4000 miles after hard break in. Now it shifts very good up or down.

I am also changing my rear end to maybe a 3.70 when Lingenfelter get the gears in. I realize 2nd gear usually gives me a shift denied message when entering certain corners where 3rd gear is a little too high. With the new gears, 3rd will be the new 2nd.

To add, when I commented about modifying the downshifts, I meant controlling them not speeding them up.

I wouldn't do a bigger converter, because it will (a) generate more heat, (b) when the car downshifts you have more potential to lose traction, and (c) more slippage.

I'm thinking of those times when a car want to downshift two gears for example, I thought some auto trans guys will modify the shift tables so that they car will downshift less... Know what I mean?

I would suggest keeping the stock converter in it. You can switch to an LS3 diff 3.45 gears or get the Lingenfelter 3.70 gears along with getting the trans tuned by a good local tuner. Auto's generally don't do well RR as they generate a lot of heat but we've been playing with a few at the road course and the factory converters are handling the job without any issues. I do suggest changing the fluid every 10-15K however if you're doing a lot of events. Good luck and have fun!

Good advice on the diff.....didn't even think of that Jordan. Probably the best mod you could do along w/the trans tune.

This is why I advised an ADM tranny cooler along with changing the tranny fluid frequently. I am also upgrading my radiator.

It makes a substantial difference going from 3.23 to 3.45 and you're still utilizing factory gears which have proven reliable for RR applications.
