INSURANCE RATES

Last night I checked the insurance rates for a new 2011 Camaro 2SS against a new 2011 Mustang GT with my insurance company. Guess what. The Camaro will cost me $400 LESS a year. I asked why when the Camaro cost more to purchase. The answer, it's a number of things like how many accidents the car has been in (Ford drivers can't drive LOL), cost of repairs, passenger safety etc. So maybe the Mustang isn't cheaper or is it? heh heh heh.

FORD= FUEL, OIL & REPAIR DAILY (Sorry just couldn't resist)

Good to know. Thanks for the info.

I've had similiar things happen. It's my experience that the cost of insurance has nothing to do with the value of the vehicle. If the insurance company isn't paying out much money on claims, the cost is way cheaper.

Yep, we traded in a 2010 VW Jetta Sportwagen on the 2010 Camaro 2SS/RS and our rates went DOWN $150 a year.
The insurance told us that both cars were the same "symbol" as far as they're concerned, the same category.
I thnk one thing about the Camaros is that they tend to be a little more pricey than the Mistakes, so not as many "kids" rodding them into phone poles, and that there aren't as many on the road. All demographics.....

I have a 2010 Tahaoe LTZ and a 2011 Camaro SS and my Tahoe cost about double what the Camaro did. My Insurance for the Tahoe is cheaper then the Camaro. Make sure if you do any mods to your Camaro to tell your insurance company because if you total it you will not get money for the mods. I use Geico and I just told them my mods (supercharger,Exhaust, painted strips, Stereo and some other goodies) and it only went up $40.00 for 6 months. I think I have around $20,000 in mods. Sorry for the picture but I'm trying to figure this shit out. LOL

the difference for me was negligible between the two... something like $0.30 difference a month. then again I'm only 22 and paying about $1200 a year for insurance so I'm sure both rates would be equally high.

The good news is, the rates come down as you get older. The bad news is, you won't be able to see as good or move around as easy. But I hit 50 next month, and so far its not as bad as poeple have told me.

I sell and service auto insurance and every time this topic comes up I sit back and laugh because everybody is an expert.
Bottom line is that rates are based on statistics and the rates will be different from person to person.

around here you cannot swing a dead cat without hitting a Mustang, so it makes sense they are in alot more accidents.

Same here, mustangs a dime a dozen. Even seems to be more challengers than camaros in my area.

For the same coverage, my 6 month premium dropped about $50 between my '09 Colorado and my '11 SS. It was in a higher rate class because it had 4-wheel drive, and interestingly enough, that's the only vehicle in which I've had an accident. Offroad. at almost 10,000'.
