Dealer Charging more for Dealer Installed Accessories

So, I'm getting a 2012 LT2 White that came to the dealer lot with the painted heritage grill. The dealer installed it and it is added to the sticker at MSRP. So far so good. (We won't worry about what I'm buying it for just yet.) Then I ask the dealer to install ground effects, hockey stripe and blade spoiler. In addition to the MSRP, the dealer is charging me $386 to install those three items. I asked why, when they are listed as dealer installed items (LPO's) and they say it's because they are being installed after the fact, that they didn't come with the car from factory, GM will charge them shipping on them, and GM pays the dealer to install accessories that "come with the car from factor" not items that are ordered afterwards. I almost killed the deal. In theory, this is just not right since I haven't even picked up the car yet.

If GM does pay a dealer to install accessories that come with the car from factor and doesn't pay for accessories that are not shipped with the car, I guess I can accept that; but is that correct? I am going to call GM customer service tomorrow and ask them. But any help would be appreciated.

And BTW, I'm buying it at GM Preferred plus EVA, plus the install charge.

Tell them you do not want the car and see what they say.

They have to pay someone to install them and shipping on the items! Its not that hard to understand! If you order them before hand the are shipped with the car and GM pays as in "warranty" work. So you set a purchase price but then expect them to loose additional money...

Extras are extra. Maybe some dealers would and some won't. It's their prerogative.

So far I think everyone has missed the point of the question. "If GM does pay a dealer to install accessories that come with the car from factory and doesn't pay for accessories that are not shipped with the car, I guess I can accept that; but is that correct? I am going to call GM customer service tomorrow and ask them."

So.....Is GM paying them to install these accessories on a car that has not been delivered and then I am paying for it too? Maybe this rephrase will help.

Is it listed as a "Dealer Installed Option" on your window sticker? If so then you shouldn't have to pay for any additional prices.

If the accessories came with the car then GM pays for the installation.

If you (or they) ordered the accessories AFTER the car is at the dealer's lot, then someone needs to pay for installation.

Hope this helps!

I had mudflaps, bed rail protectors and wheel well plastic that was part of the LPO protection pkg on my Silverado put on by the dealer. There was no added installation cost. I wanted to do it myself but they said because it is a dealer installed pkg and warrantied they had to install it. No extra cost though either. Sounds like they are pulling a fast one to make a quick buck.

dealer installed pkg
If its listed on the window stickers as dealer installed, then you shouldn't pay! If you ordered it after the fact, and its not listed on the window sticker you have to pay.

Its not rocket science! And believe it or not - Not every dealer is out to screw you, no matter what everyone on her will tell you!
