One more step towards my Camaro

Hey all, its been a while since I've been on here (by a while I mean about 2 weeks, which is a long time for a regular like me.)

Well, in those two weeks, I passed a major step that was a requirement for getting my Camaro. I sold my 1970 Oldsmobile, and the $4,000 I got for it is now going towards the down payment for the Camaro (the wife wants it to be a down payment towards a townhouse. Since the mortgage on that would be less than our rent now, and since it might even include garage space, she just might win this one. Either way, I'm closer financially to the Camaro). The good news is the Cutlass went to a great buyer. I fielded a lot of calls from people who I did not want to buy the car (one guy asked if it was a 4 or 6 cyl) but it went to a muscle car collector in Sweden. The guy cared enough to ship it half way around the world. That's nice.

So now that the Cutlass is gone, I want the Camaro even more. Before I was pretty much resigned to getting it 2 or 3 years from now, but now I have a V8 shaped hole in my life and I just have to have it. I miss the V8 rumble, and I miss the specialness of the car. My Cobalt is a far more sensible car and it serves me very well, but when I drove the Cutlass people noticed. People complimented it. It was unique. I miss that. And that's why I want the Camaro. Really, logically it is totally the wrong car for me. If it wasn't for the Camaro, I'd be looking at sport compacts and hot hatches. I drive on narrow, twisty mountain roads and am young, so an affordable, small, sporty car is really what makes sense. However, nothing else has quite the air of specialness that the Camaro has, and that's why I still want it. It may not make rational sense (and I'm a very rational, practical thinker) but I really want it anyway. Hopefully I can get it soon. I could get a V6 model in months, but I really think I should hold out and get the V8. It may be the last of its kind.

OK that's my story. Glad to be back.

welcome back brother! I am in the same situation as you my cobalt SS/SC serves me great, but the Camaro has that "something" that just fits. I too was gonna order a v6 but ended up canceling my order and will wait and get the v8 even if it has to be next spring I think your priorities are in the right place so a little patience and you will have all that you want a v8 Camaro and a garage for it!

Pics? (of the 70O).

Why is it the wrong car? You should consider the v6 if your looking at economy issues. It will fell just like a v8 and sounds good.

Well see, although I generally prefer small, nimble, and revvy, I have some pretty strong nostalgia for the rumble and grunt of my Olds. There are loads of wonderful high-tech V6 sporty cars out there, and the LS and LT Camaros certainly are on that list, but the list of V8 (affordable) sporty cars is smaller, and the Camaro sits at the top of it. Logically, the V6 suits me perfectly. It is the irrational lust for the absurd power and thunder from the V8 that's driving me towards an SS.

So pics of the Olds:

You know, since dealers are going to be getting their first V6 car in a couple of weeks, why not wait and drive it to see if it'll give you the enough power? If it still isn't enough, then you'll know you HAVE TO HAVE the V8. Since you've been gone for awhile, there have been alot of videos put up. The V6 models really do seem to give a person the best bang for their buck! (I'm still going with the SS though.)

The sad (or funny, depending on how you look at it) thing is the V6 is only 25hp fewer than a GT Mustang.

The gap is even less than that, as far as HP. However, the GT has far more torque than the V6 Camaro and is lighter, so it still wins.

I do plan on test driving a V6 as soon as one is available at my dealer. I really do hope it is enough to fill the Olds' shoes. Power aside, I know I'll miss the front fascia (except for the fake scoop), brembo brakes, and competition mode on the stability control from the SS.

By the way, thanks for the compliments on the Olds. Sure it was a 4 door and it had a lowly 350/column shifted 3 speed auto combo, and bad paint, but it really was dear to my heart. It had character.
