A little help here

Ok, I must be missing something? Maybe adequate surfing skills? Just bought a new 11 SS vert and I need snow tires/rims. I've sifted through hundreds of posts and I must just be overlooking what I'm looking for? Just trying to find a cut and dry answer. My car does have the rollerskate brake pads. My understanding is that I can replace the brake pads with with an aftermarket pad that eliminates the rollerskate piece. Will this allow for 18" wheels? I've priced the 20" snow tires to fit my stock wheels and at around $1,000+, it would seem that changing the brake pads for under $100 would make sense, when I can likely find a set of snow tires and wheels for around the same cost as the 20" snow tires alone. Then I'd have 2 sets and wouldn't have to go through all of the tire swapping at the beginning and end of each winter. So what's the scoop here? Sorry if the info is already out there. I dug around without finding any resolute answers. Thanks in advance!

So what's your question? Sounds to me like you have figured it out. Yes, 18" wheels/tires are cheaper than 20's. Yes, it would be more convenient to have a full set of winter wheels/tires on the side. So, start shopping for some brake pads!! Or, if you want, you can just cut off the rollerskates (for free).

brother, i hear ya on that! i hate where i live. sucks to have to say that, but its true. family and work keep me here. lower michigan is mostly very ugly, a concrete jungle of walmarts and fast food chains. anyway, as the other gentleman suggested, yes, i have read threads that say, cut the brakes, etc, deal with a bit more squeel, but i couldn't find anyone saying yes i did this and yes, i found no trouble fitting 18s. ordering online posses the risk of fitment, so i want to be absolutely certain. have people done this and can they share their experience? did they require a certain offset to madge it work, etc? i don't want to use spacers. are they necessary with 18s, or even 19s after citing the skates off?
