Could a Mustang‘s Remote Open the Camaro’s Trunk?
My wife drives a new Mustang, V6 model and I the LS3 Camaro. We park in our driveway approximately 6 feet apart. Ever since she purchased her car, I have noticed that periodically my trunk lid is open when I go out in the mornings to go to work. Perplexed, I simply write it off as “I must have hit the trunk open button when I parked my car and put the keys in my pocket”. Until yesterday…
I was out in the front yard when the wife got home from work (She typically pulls into the driveway 30-40 minutes after I do). I glanced up after she parked and noticed that my Camaro’s head lights were on. She got out of her car and went to her trunk to pull out groceries. I yelled to her “hey, did you just open your trunk with the remote?” and her reply was “yes”. I should have known because her Mustang does not have a manual trunk-open button in the ****-pit (pour design huh?). Anyhow, I walked over to my Camaro and my trunk lid was open. I then closed the Camaro’s trunk and asked her to press her remote again to re-open her trunk. Nothing happened but the Mustang’s trunk lid popped. I asked her to hit her door unlock, nothing happened. Four to five subsequent attempts would not re-open the Camaro’s trunk. Anyone have ideas on this? Could a Mustang’s remote open the Camaro’s trunk, every once in a while? Are their frequencies that close together that they could operate the other’s RF devices? Or are other forces of nature occurring here? Thoughts or comments?

If your fob is in your pocket it can easily pop the trunk. This is highly documented here. Has happened to me several times.
I would find it very unlikely your wifes fob is doing it. I have other chevy vehicles with the same fob in my driveway and it has never happened. But its really easy to pop the trunk on our fobs just in a pocket or a bump of it even. |

Sounds like your car might be an actual transformer that dislikes the mustang!
But with seriousness that is a bit weird to do.. |

If you bought two random cars and the rf frequencies are the same...play the lotto.
Does anything happen to the Pony when you press YOUR remote?

Any chance you have kids who were playing with the remote? My kids love messing with my wife and will take our spare keys and lock her car just as she's about to get into it.

This mystery has been solved... My wife just confessed that she had her set of Camaro keys in the bottom of her purse at that time. She usually keeps them in the house however yesterday she had them in her purse for some reason. Getting out of her car with purse in hand must have pressed the trunk unlock.
Sorry for the false alarm post - The WIFE MADE ME DO IT :-)

One experience I had was I went to unlock my car in a parking lot and a mid 90s mitsubishi alarm went off. Thinking it was a coincidence, I locked my car and the alarm turned off. The best part is I unlocked and locked my car two more times and each time the alarm would go on then off. So I wouldn't doubt the RF crossover.

Yes it will, trade her Ford in and buy another Camaro to prevent this from happening

Maybe it's some kind of weird mating call? I also think your Camaro can do better

A long time ago, I had an aftermarket alarm (don't remember the name any longer) on my on my truck // 1990 model C1500//, so it really only did the lock/unlock thing, nothing more fancy than that.
One time I was leaving the mall with a friend and was hitting the remote just to see how far away it would work... I heard a "chirp chirp" from a car... I thought it was just a coincidence, so I did it again -- got a "chirp" from the same car... Well, as it turns out, I was able to sit there at this car and lock/unlock their door with my key fob.... I've never since had that happen to any other car alarm I've owned. It was both funny and scary. |
