Question Question about Plant Pick-Up

Let just say you had really deep pockets Could you pay for your ZL1 at the dealership and just pick it up yourself? I am not talking about a plant tour or anything like that. Just pick your ZL1 up instead of having it shipped?

From what I understand all new cars have to be dealer prepped.

It would be very cool if something like the Corvette museum delivery option was available for the Camaro. When I buy a Corvette in the future, that's one must have option.

Who does the prep on the car if you choose to do the Vett pick up? I assume you pay for it at your dealer or can you pay at the plant?

I'm not sure who does the prep work for the museum delivery. I assume it's either the museum itself or they have an arrangement with a local dealer.

I don't think that Rick Hendrick even managed to pick his car(s) up at the factory. He was there when they were completed, but for some reason I don't think he drove them off the plant property (or, more likely -didn't drive them into an enclosed trailer). 99% sure that GM kept the cars for a while, and he had to wait for them to be sent to his dealership. So if Rick Hendrick can't get a true factory pickup I don't think anyone can.

I heard that he(Rick.H) did not take the cars with him to. So I guess no matter what your ZL1 is going for a train/truck ride?? I can remember when I was young my next door neighbor picked his Dodge Intrepid up at the factory. I just remember him saying how nice it was to drive it from MI back to VA. Even as a little kid I was like woooow

Of course he didn't take them with him, GM is probably going to keep 1, 2 and 69 in QC longer than anyone else's. Maybe later he can come back and pick them up.

There is a dealer who preps the Corvettes for the plant pickup and returns them to the museum for delivery. Too bad the Camaros don't have that option, so we need a Camaro museum.

I believe the PDI on the museum delivery cars is done at the museum. That's where you take delivery of the car, not at the plant. You do get a tour of the plant though.

The Museum has a crew that does the prep on the cars and they are fantastic. They are specially trained. It is the best prep I've ever had on a Corvette.

Absolutely!!!! We need a plant pick up for the true enthusiasts.

I've spent the past two weeks buffing out all the scratches from the shipping baffoons that just trashed my new '12 IBM SS.

You can tell they slid stuff across the roof, went up and down both sides of the car dragging their dirty pants across the dirty car.... Ran the wipers across a dirty windshield, scratched that - new one ordered.

Car sits there in Oshawa getting covered in dust and dirt and then Billy Bob knuckle dragger treats it like crap for the next week on trains and trucks.

I'd like to meet the scumbags that handled my car in transit, whatever train company it is in Canada, and then Cassens truck in the US.... and piss in their coffee.

Make it happen and sign me up for direct plant delivery for my next one. Or maybe a dealer or museum right near the plant.

Come on, it can be done, just make it happen already. Pretty please with sugar on top. These cars deserve so much better.
