Alright I am sick of it.

With my current setup my car is vibrating apart. I need to add a set of mufflers that is pretty quiet at cruising and minimal drone. I was thinking an MRT set up or maybe a set of 40 series flowmasters. My car at cruise 65-71ish is pretty quiet. but at speeds closer to 80 man the drone sucks bad. and of course the drone can be bad in other gears at around 2-3k rpms. I know a set of muffs will help with volume I jsut hope it doesnt make the drone worse. Any suggestions? I have a 10 month old and I don't want to hurt his hearing. My set up is not in his best interest. I want a nice growl but not super loud.

EDIT: I want to leave everyting the same in myset up below but jsut add mufflers.

Have you thought about adding a crossover pipe between each exhaust pipe. That has been used in older muscle cars and street rods to even out the exhaust sounds and might also work for you. Talk to a muffler shop.

Have you thought about helmholz pipes? They kill the drone like nothing else.

You could also insert some quiet mufflers. I have a borla proxs setup which is extremely quiet yet has nice growl when I get on it. My muffler shop told me the borla was even more quiet than the magnaflow so it's probably one of the quietest around. Now, I don't have the borla axle-back. I just bought the mufflers and had my muffler shop put them on.

^^Agree with Mach, you could try the heimholtz.

definitely do the helmholtz pipes. You'll keep the same sound you have now that you love, but kill the drone. This is the best option.

Check out this thread...lots of guys are doing it...check out the last few pages for several pictures.

hmmm...Im going to have to spend more time researching this. How do I even go about doing this? Who figures out the frequency and where do I get the pipes.

I don't really call it an issue. I love the way it sounds. But I have a little one and don't want to kill his ears when he is in the car seat. Just need it quieter now.

Not sure if you have a smart phone, but I think they talk about an app they used to measure the frequency in that thread.

But my guess is your drone is similar in the rpm range as everyone else's...around the 1,800 to 2,100 range. The length of the pipe is crucial, but it seems like 29" is the popular number from that thread.

29 inches is good for killing MRT2.0 drone where the 120mhz frequency spikes at highways speeds 1900-2300 RPM.

You will have to get a hold of a frequency sound scope and have it listen to the drone to identify the frequency. The itunes store has an APP called SigScope Pro.

I can def understand that as I have a 1 yr old and 3 yr old. If you do the helmholtz mod it will probably sound exactly the same as when I had the solo exhaust installed with magnaflow resonated x-pipe since you might as well say solo is an exhaust with 2 large resonators or glasspacks with helmholtz pipes. The helmholtz setup will definitely get rid of your drone but will not quiet your exhaust overall noise level. So technically it will still be about the same noise level with your current setup but just without the drone. I personally can't stand loud exhaust no matter how good it sound especially on my daily driver. I don't want to sound like I am racing just to go grab some diapers LOL.

In checking out the V8 and V6 threads, it seems to me that some people like drone and are willing to put up with it, no matter what. Well, I guess that's OK, but the experience of having a car that is satisfying in every way can not be beat. Listen to those who have been there, believe, and go with the j-pipes and adjustable ends for your existing system.

You will not be disappointed.
