Ported TB, IM, Heads and Black Ice-olator Project!
Alright, so here it all is!
Been pondering on getting the CNC ported TB from RX for some time now. Placed an order for it, and around the same time a lot of discussion was being made on the new heat shield isolator, now known as "Black-Iceolator". Got the mod bug and decided to jump on board! Well since the IM had to be off, figured it would be a great time to port out and polish the IM. Actually enjoyed working on it, and it also a good feeling to know that you did it. I also decided to port the heads as well so that everything had a nice smooth transition between each piece. All in all it was a lot of work, but I took my time to make sure everything was right. Definitely learned a lot about the car as well. As most know their is a lot of DIY on this, but I will go into some detail on what I did and used. Intake Manifold: I used a Rotozip, with a spiral wood cutting bit to port out the main size of each hole. It was really nice to use since it had a base to guide you. First I set the bit at 1/4", made a pass, then dropped it to 1/2". To clean up the cuts and make a smooth transition, I used a Dremel with 60grit sanding bands. I then used 120grit bands to smooth it even more. To really reach around and polish out the majority of it, I went over everything again with a 120grit flapper. The flapper worked amazing and really did the trick. Heads: For the heads I just used the Dremel with the 60grit bands. I only went about 1/4" a inch deep and made a pass around until I got to my mark. I then went 3/4" or so around with the 120grit flapper to polish it up and make a smooth transition. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's raining here today so I wasn't able to get the car out. Hopefully it will be nicer tomorrow so I'll crank her up and see how she does! Big thanks to Tracy for awesome products and his help in our Camaro community. Also thanks to everyone else for input and information throughout the threads. Couldn't have done it without everyone! ![]() |

Nice work I hope you enjoy the results as much as I do. I will say you went deeper, not sure if there is a big difference, but looks very nice

Can't wait to see how it feels. I really didn't go so deep with cutting, I mainly based the cut off the pictures of yours. I just polished it out about a inch. |

Nice work on the heads, using the flapper made it look deep. I'm guessing it wasn't near as aggressive as what you did on the IM. Is what we are seeing on the heads pretty much just the width of the flapper wheel cleaning up the transition? I know when I was a pipefitter, the flapper wheel was a very nice tool to use when wanting to do light work. Will be tackling this project as soon as I hear a few more offer there feedback on the port-matching results.

Yeah it definitely looks a lot deeper than it is. Most of what you see is just polished, I only beveled out the top to the gasket opening, and blended down from there keeping the same shape only smoothing.
