Why can't we like both ZL1 and GT500?

Perhaps the best part of loving muscle cars is discussing how the cars we love compare to the competition. The ZL1 is an amazing machine, nobody doubts that. Magazines have said it, owners know it, and M3 buyers fear it. The halcyon days of American muscle are back (for now). And living in such a time is great because there are endless amounts of things for ZL1 owners to talk about. And one of those things ZL1 owners and lovers also enjoy talking about is the competition. But for some reason, we can never discuss that here? Why is that? It seems like lately even innocuous posts about the GT500 (articles which even discuss the ZL1) are being deleted.

Having worked in journalism for years, I must say, I think this message board suffers from this overly protective approach. I understand the thinking. If we delete everything, the trolls won't come in. But what's really happening is we're creating an insular universe here that behaves like a members only club. Same thing happened with the Viper Community and it got divided. The real enthusiasts started Viper Alley and all of the old gents who didn't want to hear anything bad or about the competition stayed at Viper Club of America.

I think Camaro ZL1 owners love debates. If someone trolls a thread in which the GT500 is discussed, then delete the troll's comments. But why delete the thread? I love this message board but I just wish the moderators would allow for a more healthy debate at times, and not close the gates every time a big piece of Ford or Dodge news drops. Thoughts?

This is America ... like or dislike what ever you want... I only see threads get locked or deleted if a pissing match and name calling starts.

^^ This. I loke both cars, I just prefer the Camaro over the Mustang. I also used to own a Corvette and am still an active member of their club (even though I am currently Corvetteless). It's all in the way you post. A healthy debate every now and again is fine as long as it's done with respect.

I like both cars, I just happen to think that one is better than the other for what I want out of a muscle car.

BTW, IBTD!

Everyone feels threatened, for whatever reason, if in their own mind they do not have the best of whatever it is they have. The problem is that they are not happy unless it is confirmed by others.

It's not the cars, it's the people. The things they say, the way they act. I like most sports/muscle cars, but I buy what I prefer and can afford.

Unfortunately, it's not just rude or belligerent posts/threads that get deleted. I'm still scratching my head about how a legitimate article posted about 'ring times gets banished to Siberia, but a thread about what you might eat in your car flourishes.:(

This is where people learn that the word "best" is entirely subjective. A Ferrari might be faster than a Jeep, but it isn't necessarily better if you are looking for something that will crawl through a river. A Civic might get better gas mileage than a Corvette, but it doesn't come in a convertible, so which is better now? "best" is entirely relative to what the owner wants. Personally for me I would buy a Mustang before I bought a Camaro simply because I've been in love with Mustangs since I was about 7 years old and they hold some really special memories for me. However, I would never say it is better than a Camaro unless I was referring to a particular feature or spec and could qualify it as being just better for me and not everybody. Unfortunately not everybody on the interwebz is that objective when they talk about what they like.

The danger people get into when they say this is better than that is exactly what the problem with Hitler was. In his autobiography he makes it clear that in his mind whatever he liked was good and whatever he disliked was bad. We can't make the mistake of seeing the world in black and white like that. Everybody has their own taste and it should be respected.

I like them all. I spend my hard earned $ on the cars I like, not because of brand loyalty or some crap like that.

Very good!

Unfortunently, it will never happen. Too many people are too one-sided. Once they decide they like something more than something else, they will do whatever they can to think of all the faults of the other thing and convince themselves their choice is the best. It is human nature.

I myself, respect both cars and I think the new Mustangs are pretty great....but the Camaro is just sexier (to me). Ford has unleashed a monster, and I don't care who you are but you should respect that. You don't have to like it.

You should see the guys that frequent the GT500 threads over on the SVTperformance forum. Those guys absolutely HATE this forum lol. Its really kind of sad how every single time those guys post up a new thread about some cool new feature or performance spec about the GT500 half the comments are something similar to:

"I bet the ZL1 is pissing its pants right about now"
"Take that Camaro5!!"
"Camaro5 is an embarrasment to car ethusiast sites everywhere"
"Someone please start compiling a database of retarded comments from C5...."
"Man that place gives me a good laugh. Its like reading the comics for auto guys"

...and on and on. Here, we rip the GT500. There, they rip not just the car, but us lol.

This is a great place to be in my opinion...that said I also have to wonder why certain threads just dissapear completely.
