Waxing too hot?
So if some of you have noticed the US has had a bit of a heat wave and I garage my car every night and was thinking of doing some polishing. But with the temp in the air as hot as it is, the metal is cool for being garaged.
What is your point of no waxing temperature? It is 89 farenheight now, and I am not too sure about this. |

I don't think it's the air temperature as much as it's the sun actually on the paint.....the sun will dry the wax to fast...and the wax won't work right (or most waxes anyway) when used in direct sun.
In the garage the air temp should be fine though....I just did mine a few weeks ago inside too !

Personally I try to stay between the 70-80 range. Below 70 is too cold and the wax either won't set or it will take too long and anything above 80, wax seems to not set right. I find direct sun or not doesn't matter as long as the temps near the car is between this range. I also do a little 'feel' test where I place my hand on the car and leave it there for a minute. If it feels neutral then I'll wax, if it feels warm or cold I won't.
Something else to keep in mind is the color of the car. Dark cars heat up faster and with less heat then light colors do. Before I bought my 2SS, I had a white Z28 and I was able to wax that car in warmer temps then I can this one simply because white doesn't get as hot as other cars. |

Are you WAXING or POLISHING? Both should be done out of direct sunlight, and extreme heat/humidity will negatively affect the performance of polishes when trying to correct swirls. Some waxes tolerate heat better than others. I have had good luck with applying liquid waxes in the heat, but, according to Dylan@Adam’s they tend to be less durable. I doubt a paste wax would work like it’s supposed to in the heat we have been seeing.

Jeez, if we worried about this in Texas we would only be able to wax our cars about one month out of the year. Nice shade tree and some elbow grease is all we need.

Wax, polish. I use the Adams polishing system with the PC buffer.

We don't have to worry about waxing when it to cold very often. |

I can't put my car inside, so have a regiment of cleaning the car early in the morning on week ends, usually start around 6 AM, avoid the sun drying the wax too quickly and avoid heat stroke as well

I've waxed cars in high temps before and never had a problem with the wax/polish. It's not going to hurt anything as long as you're not in the sun.

You can work in higher heat/humidity, it does really make things more difficult, but it can be done.
Heres a detail I did over the 4th of July weekend 1 year ago... temps were in the triple digits every day and I was working on something much larger (F350) that was difficult to get covered. Have a look at this writeup and you can pick up some of the tips and tricks I used to make it happen: http://www.adamsforums.com/forums/de...-ups/12552.htm |

Poorboy's products can be used in the direct sunlight. I have tested their wax on paint that had a panel temp of over 140, no problems.
