Crooked dealer question
It seems like there is a general consensus on these boards that crooked dealers should be outed and not allowed to continue their crooked ways.
I was told by a local dealer (who sold their May 6th V6 car for $7000 over MSRP the same day) that they ordered one of their allocations under a fake name. He was trying to assure me that he had a new Camaro on the way and available to sell (for waaayy over MSRP I'm sure). That is until another dealer overheard him talking to me and informed him that their "fake name Camaro" was already sold. Should I ignore this bit of info or is there a place to out this dealer to GM. They seemed real scummy and I stayed and talked to them for a while just to get a sense of how they do business. After listening to them, I feel sorry for their customers. Does GM even really care about this and if so, who would actually do anything about it? Has anyone here been told specifically by a dealer that they "fudged" the paperwork to keep an allocation? (his exact words btw) Should I just drop it and move on? |

There are people on these very boards that have ordered cars from two or more different dealers and will take whichever comes in first. That means the leftover car will be sold to someone other than the one who ordered it.
Tell me why that's OK. The car will be sold to a different name than it was ordered for. There is shadyness on both sides of these transactions.

My dealer wasn't even shy about it. They ordered one fully loaded, ground effects, 21s, the whole nine. He said they would sell it as soon as it comes in. It was their first 'sold' car. Then a guy before me, then me. He even told me they weren't really supposed to do it. I don't understand why they can't. Or even IF they aren't supposed to.

Immediate Camaro in your driveway= Paying way over sticker price
Question is, why pay way over something, that does not even have 100 percent to your preference. Unless you get lucky that is. |

I know my local dealer used at least 2 allocations for "lot cars". It is probably perfectly acceptable to GM... they want to sell cars.

I'm sure it happened alot.Dealers telling people who ordered in Oct that they were way down on their list of allocations, highly unlikely.alot of dealers cheated. This opportunity dosen't come around often. Then some say that their first 3 sold canceled orders and now cars are available for sale (over MSRP!!)Cheaters will always cheat just don't let them cheat you!

If the buyer and the seller are both smiling, it's OK with me.

I don't see anything crooked. crooked would be if that were a real customer order and they sold it from underneath him. the fact that they are telling you about it makes them a pretty honest dealer.

My main issue with dealers who ordered cars for themselves during the R6P period is that it makes a true enthusiast wait longer, and possibly be outside that dealer's allocation number as a result. Now, if a dealer had leftover allocations and the early order period came and went.....then go for it. If there aren't enough people in the dealer's area to fill their allocation, they may as well get some on the floor. That'll produce a sale for sure(albeit way above MSRP) and make someone happy that they got a Camaro. Not like they robbed a bank though, so to speak.

Should have made myself more clear. There are three other people that I know of that are in line after this fake customer car. A friend of mine ordered from them in October before anyone else. He is still waiting at 1100 and the dealer is ordering cars for themselves to sell first at way over MSRP. My fault for not being clearer.
If you were the one waiting, would'nt you want to know WHY you were waiting while the dealership is selling cars to folks that didnt order? Wouldn't you want GM to know what this dealership is doing? |

[QUOTE=Maddtim;483663]If they are ordering cars for themselves in favor of R6P orders, that's just wrong in my book. That said, I'm sure Fbodfather will see this post during one of his usual trolls of the boards and may "mark it down for consideration." Not sure if he could do anything other than make recommendations though. I know he said in another post that, while situations like these would not be highly regarded in terms of what dealers are closed, it would be a factor in consideration.[/QUOTE
Dealers can use their allocations how they wish is how i understand it. Some dealers do not order any sold orders. Why do they need to use a fake name to place an order? The only reason i can think of is if they want the R6P code on the invoice. My dealer placed 3 stock orders ahead of mine. I was initially pissed, but in reality it is a business and if I was in his shoes I can't say that I wouldn't. I realized that he at least he was honest with me. He never told me that he would not order any stock ahead of me and no agreement was signed saying that he would not. I am still a bit down because instead of being at 3000 right now I would either have my car or it would be in the shipping process about now.

sometimes i think GM should hop on saturns, at least i think its staturn, train and just sell all cars at a set price and get rid of salesman, salesman help no one....
Fact of the mater is you never get a deal on a good car--ever. Even if the salesman has led you to believe so, trust me, ya don't. If you got a good deal then they didn't make any money... |
