does the automatic SS trim really have 26HP less than the manual?

if so i heard that the auto ss trim actually has a better 0-60, how? also why does it drop by 26? i understand its a lil heavier but the mustang auto gt is same HP and aswell with the challengers v8

manual needs a bit more HP to keep up with the automatic because it doesnt have a stupid computer to shift for you while youre eating mcdonalds.

The L99, which is the automatic transmission engine, has 400 HP and 410ftlbs of torque. The LS3, which is the manual transmission engine, has 426hp and 420ftlbs of torque.

Having more horsepower isn't always going to translate into a faster time, as things like weight, traction, driver, etc will always factor into those equations. Additionally, the very tiny amount of difference in HP is not really going to translate into a vast difference on the track or anywhere else for that matter.

The main reason for the faster 0-60 time is the difference in the gearing for the automatic. They use a 3.27 gear while the manual transmission cars use a 3.45 gearing. Additionally, the 6 speed auto trans is also not a slouch like in many previous cars the auto was a let down..

I may be wrong, but doesn't the L99 have a lower compression ratio due to AFM?

  1. Layout
    • The L99 and LS3 engines are both built on the same platform, featuring 6.2L of displacement and eight cylinders. The camshaft of the L99 engine has slightly less duration than the one found in the LS3, giving the Camaro SS paired with this motor a smoother ride. The compression ratio of the L99 motor is 10.4:1, as the pistons have valve reliefs machined in the top halves of the pieces. The LS3's compression ratio is 10.7:1.

Jalapeno doubles are the best, the spicy eliminates the regular McDonalds taste.

L99s are junk motors, well just the valvetrain.... AFM sucks. I talked to my mechanic about AFM, wondered if you disabled it with tune so it never operated, would you still have eventual lifter problems.... Yes is the answer.
