Coil Pack Covers

Doing my own coil pack covers, started on drivers side this afternoon, it's a little raw looking right now and I still have to clean up some of the edges, tomorrow will be the passenger side so far it's cost me $13.60 to do one side

Hmm, I can't wait to see the finished product. Might have some potential. Or even a starting point for something better.

Right now I am using just some home depot aluminum stock 6"x18" for test fitting purposes, once I feel that it's on the right track I will use thicker aluminum, I am going to cut and fit the passenger side today and see how that comes out, it just hides alot of the mess in my opinion

Won't it absorb and hold the heat? I like the idea, but if it does I'm not sure I'd want to maintain additional heat in that area...

Well they're made out of aluminum, they are vented with about 1" airgap all the way around, they are slightly larger than the valve covers themsleves, just to hide the wiring and coil packs. The factory cover in my opinion would retain more heat than these would. That completely covers the top of the engine and is insulated. I am attaching some pics of the passenger side that I mocked up today. Next will be slightly thicker aluminum so they don't twist like these mock ups do, I should have the final ones done in a week or so

Update on the use of thicker aluminum:

Driver side is done, this weekend I will prime and paint them, with the thicker aluminum a 2ft x 2ft piece cost $20 local metal shop, the mock up pieces cost $20 also from home depot, the bolt kit cost $5 from harbor freight:

Tools used, jigsaw w/metal blades, drill with 2 1/2" hole saw, 1" hole saw, belt sander using 60 grit to knock down the roughness and 160 grit to smoothen it out.

Couple of pics of the raw finish on the driver side, should have the passenger side done in raw finish tomorrow or thursday, then it's paint time

Got them done and painted with wrinkle black finish, came out good for the most part, I think my next set of covers that I am going to make will go close to the SC. My metal brake ended up breaking, so I went with this style for now, total cost was about $90 with the metals, primer, paint...and 3 hours on the final pieces, about 4 hours mock up time

Thank you! It's wasn't too bad, I did mess up the passenger side when I was cutting the opening for the fuel line the first time, the holesaw took off on me, so I had to re-do that side over.

I'll break down what I used:
Material
.040 sheet of aluminum
M6 - 50 bolts (4)
M6 nuts (8)
1 can Etching primer
1 can Wrinkle black
Wipe-all surface cleaner

Tools
Jigsaw w/bi-metal blades
Hole saws 2 1/2" and 1 1/4"
Belt sander (smoothen out all edges)
Dremel (smoothen out cut out areas)
Drill w/various bits
