chrome CAI?

I know this should be in the engine forum and it is but not as many of you read that especially if you've already bought one. I want a cai I really like the BBK . for the chrome appearance but it's just a tube no ceramic coating. Looks are important to me but not if it doesn't work anyone have one likes/ dislikes

I had a CAI on my V6 and should be getting one any day now for my V8. I love it and recommend it from Apex_speed.com (great service and all the help you would ever need, no matter what the purchase). It's definitely the best looking and, according to MANY here, the best performer. Just my 2 cents.

Check out intake from (CAI) Cold Air Inductions. I personally have this intake and happy with it. I havn't had anything else besides stock so I can't really compare. It is also recommended by a lot of members on this forum. Also one of the best looking IMO

The metal one that's not ceramic coated heats up so the air doesn't stay cold.
On my old camaro, K&N listed a 17hp gain with the FIPK (plastic) with the Aircharger (chrome) they only listed a 5hp gain.

The ceramic coated ones get hot on the inside too. After driving around a while, turn off the engine, pop the hood, pull off the filter, and put your hand inside.

Maybe the ideal metal tube would be aluminum, with a thick ceramic coating on the inside only so the heat can radiate from the tube more rapidly. Or insulating all exterior exposed portions of the tube with a silcone spray and then wrapping with DEI's titanium header wrap. Essentially insulating the tube from underhood temps so well that heat can't to the tube. Not that I've thought about this much.

I've used silicone (RTV) as a heat insulator in the past and it worked fairly well on it's own.

I have a guage (Ultragauge) that, among about 30 other parameters, monitors the ambient temp and the intake air temp and with my K&N Typhoon at speed the intake temp is within 2-3 degrees of ambient. Yes, it does rise more if you're idling or whatever but if I was overly concerned about that I'd wrap the tube in header wrap or something but I'm not and it's too purdy to do that anyway.

Where are you monitoring IATs? Via the stock sensor that we see right near the filter?

Most of our customers prefer the CAI intake system, but it really comes down to your preference. We offer the BBK, CAI as well as the K&N intake systems at great prices. Feel free to call, PM or email us with questions or discount C5 pricing.

Kind regards,

As far as I know, yes, so I realize that that's not necessarily the exact temp it may be by the time it actually enters the TB but, at speed, I can't imagine the air would have time enough to heat up very much rushing thru the remainder of the tube (but I could be wrong).

Chrome and or bare aluminum are Great and transferring any under hood heat directly in to your intake air which reduces Horsepower.

A Cold Air Kits Job is to get the coldest Possible Air to the intake port of the engine without picking up any additional Heat from the Hot engine parts.

Cold Air inductions, Rotofab and Halltech all have Great Solutions.

You get what you pay for here.

Ted.
