Ever get pulled over for having smoked taillights?

having smoked taillights? I live in texas, and literally every other car has them. I got pulled over a while back and was just curious if anyone else had the same experience, or a way around this law?

"Everyone else is doing it" is a bullet proof way to get out of a ticket.

lol not saying that! It's just frustrating seeing all other cars with them! Plus they just look so good on the camaro!

I couldn't agree with this statement any more. I think cutting back on the visibility is suicide. Plus the RS tails had a darkened enough look in my opinion. Equipment tickets are "pay to play". You want to have illegal things, it will cost you fines.

smoked lights of any kind are very very 80s. I cringe and think of jcwhitney when I see them.

It cuts down your visibility, I can see their point. I know there are a lot of seemingly stupid vehicle laws out there, but this one makes sense to me.

You realize that if you ever get rearended, it will automatically be your fault, not the other guys.

That's a pretty bold statement that is your opinion, not fact at all.

i have been smoking tail lights now on every car i get. there is ways around it. but you can not go DARK. or you need to leave some red showing. i tint my cars to a nice level where you can still see red.

heres my BMW i did last year. you must have red showing.

and my camaro

Are you the same one who started the thread about the same thing over in the Texas Regional sub-forum?

I dont have tinted taillights I have BLACKED OUT taillights.
I got them in Texas and never had a problem even when i got pulled over for speeding, but I was going through Arizona and I was pulled over for speeding and he gave me a warning for them. I asked the officer whats the law with tinted lights? He said they are illegal but 99% of the time the will ignore them unless they pull you over for something else.

You are correct in that it isn't an "automatic" at fault determining factor. But it can be considered in the process when determining fault, and can cause that determination to swing your way.
