ZL1 manual trans noise

I was just wondering if anyone has heard some rattling coming from underneath the console.Sounds like its coming from the shifter. When im in 6th gear and let off the gas I hear what sounds like something is not in sinc.Is this normal? When I push the clutch in I dont hear it, and when I take it out of gear and coast Its gone.

I have not experienced it in mine. Could it be a lose pan? Is it more a rattle than a clunk?

I have the same sound coming from the trans area in my 12 SS. When I took it to the dealership, a pretty savvy technician speculated that it might be the throwout bearing since it did it only when the clutch was engaged. He said to watch (listen) to it for a while to see (hear) if it gets any worse or improves???

Do you hear it when you're completely stopped with the transmission in neutral and the clutch fully engaged (IOW, your foot is completely off the clutch pedal)?

If that's also the case it may just be normal gear rattle between the gear on the input shaft and its mate on the countershaft.

sounds like the throwout bearing, i think every modern chevy i have owned that has been el-manual has had this noise sometime in my ownership. I had a 99 vette 01 SS and my 78 with the swap im sure is next. Oil pumps are common as well when cold to be noisey.

Hello just a quick update went to the dealer today and they def heard the noise.they called a gm rep and they are sending in a tech to see what the problem is.My mechanic thinks there is a possibility that it sounds like the clutch plate.Next week they will be taking it apart which Im not happy about.I will keep you posted.

Tremec's are noisy. My 2002 SS was the same way. The ZL1 makes many different noises I have found, at differrent times. The rear axle gears make a backlash noise in a decel coast at low speed when you can hear things. When noise increasingly gets worse and persistant under the same operating conditons then it's time to worry. Otherwise, be happy and enjoy! HP critters moan and groan alot.

I hear a noise in the diff at about 60 mph coasting, and it goes away when I lift the foot off the accelerator. Not sure if it's the same thing that you're talking about. It's constant and almost imperceptible...

Send a message via Yahoo to tandtperformance
Tell your dealer to check the carrier bearing in the middle of the driveshaft
I know of 2 ZL1 that had bad bearings and was doing the same thing I are saying
