I'm thinking about getting a stripper...

I've been holding out for a long time now...
I want to get a 2SS/RS but wanted to hold out until the prices came down and I could get one for less than invoice because I don't want a huge car payment. I don't really trust my Honda since I had to replace the transmission a few months back so I was going to sell it and get something cheap until I was comfortable ordering the 2SS.

I've thought about it a lot now and I think I might order an LS now and drive it a couple of years and then maybe pick up a used 2SS or possibly then be able to get one for under invoice.

Even if i was to pay MSRP that's only $1000 over the invoice price so that's only about a $20 difference in the payment. With my trade in and down payment I should be pretty close to a $300/month payment which isn't bad at all. The tires will be much cheaper to replace and it still has a decent amount of power. I can still get the limited slip diff with the manual transmission and I can get aftermarket leather for the interior. The best part of all is that I will get to experience the newness while the car is still new to the market.

Does this make sense? or should I just hold out for the dream car?
What does everyone think?

You should get what works best for you, your budget, and your situation. The good thing here is you don't sound like someone who's goal is the car first, living within your means second.

I am getting a Victory Red LS. I thought it was a better buy than the 1LT and the only real difference was RS and other options just weren't available. I thought the price difference for fog lamps, painted wheels, adjustable seat and material wasn't worth the price difference. I would love to be able to play around in a SS but it would be my DD and I drive 130 miles a day and those are not all season tires. The 304hp was really the factor in getting the V6. Couldn't do it if it was a real dog.

I think that was so not what I was expecting when I first entered this thread.

I've been thinking a lot about winter driving too as I live in New England. If I got one with the 20" wheels I'd have to get a seperate set of tires for the winter and they aren't cheap. The V6 should be much better in the winter anyway. This will be my year round daily driver and I drive over 100 miles a day also. The LS being the basic model that it is will be a huge improvement over the hand-me-down Civic I'm driving now. I really think I'm going to go for the LS. I just seems to make sense for me right now. I can quit dreaming and start driving.

Sorry I disappointed you... Maybe I'll get that kind too with the money I'll be saving on the LS. The Foxy Lady is only a couple of miles from my house!

Okay, here's what I think. I think you sound like a guy with a good head on his shoulders who does not buy before he thinks. Since this is the case, I feel whatever you decide will be the right decision for you. I am 40 years old and have never owned a new vehicle. In fact I bought my 1994 GMC Sonoma in 1996 and am still driving it today. I have two sons, one in College and one is a Junior in High School. I am getting a 2SS because I am now in the financial position to do so. Good luck and Congrats on whatever you decide.

I am above that on this thread, why it never crossed my mind.
BTW, I'm 48 with a ten and twelve year old. With my 401k and pay reduction at work, I don't know what phase I'm in life

Considering what I've lost in the past year is more than what my camaro will cost, I'll invest in it instead of my 401k.

Above that, yeah right. Well, I haven't taken a pay cut, but as Sinergy said, I too have lost more than the cost of my SS. But as long as you're not retiring soon, just ride it out like the rest of us. The market will come back. In the mean time...
