can anyone explain production control?

I understand dealership allocation and why early orders can't be filled based on the date ordered. However, once it gets into production control (3000), it is out of the dealerships' hands. Why are some orders sitting at 3000 for 6+ weeks, while others cruise to 3300 within a few days to a week of getting to 3000, and 3800 very shortly thereafter?

It would seem that once an order is in the production system, it would be more of a standard time between the different event codes, among all orders, right? If the order isn't ready to be scheduled, why would it be allocated at that point?

Does anyone know how the production system works, and why there are such large indiscrepencies in order wait times after 3000?

3000 basically means that GM has approved your order with options you added. Delays can be because of dealer allocation for the month, could be part constraints, ?????, at this point its kinda hard to say since updates are so far and few.

I was #9 at my dealer, and they are expecting my car this week which will be their first pre sold delivery!!, not sure how i passed 8 other cars though.

doesnt the dealer allocation get taken care of at 2000? meaning they cant submit it unless they have an allocation? once it hits 3000 it means its accepted by gm and out of your dealers hands? i am not sure some of this code thing is confusing.

I'm not really sure when your order is actually allocated??? I just have read where they get so many per month, and then their orders are randomly pulled.....

yea, i understand what it "officially" means. and allocation is taken care of at 2000, as was mentioned above. after that, dealerships have nothing to do with the process. that is why i am trying to determine why the large differences in timing, after that point.

if you are past 2000, allocation and constraints shouldn't affect the rest of the process of your order. if you were allocated, then there are no constraints on your order (allocations are only allowed on orders with no constraints).

stikSS....your closing is kinda my point in this thread. i went to 3000 on 4/21, basically when you did. however, i'm currently still at 3000, whereas your order has been produced. if the system is random, that is crazy...almost defeating the purpose of a "system"

what is the method to the madness?

not disagreeing with you sliks. it was the way i understood it maybe i am wrong. and as far as why some fly from 3000 and some sit there i dont know that answer i know i have been at 3000 for 19 days now. seems lately most have been at 3000 from 2 weeks to a month some are quicker i know that. maybe that has to do with constraints or allocation i dont know for sure so i guess i am confusing you more. i might send a message to fbodfather and ask him to explain it to me. if i hear from him i will message you and let you know.

I don't know any of this for sure so don't take my word for what it actually is. I know that some event codes are not updated right away or at all. I might imagine that some factors might come into affect in determining when they actually build your car such as color and interior ect... Not that anything is really on constraint but maybe that one week they do more cgm as appose to ibm. Or leather int. as appose to cloth. I really dont know but that would kind of make sense to me.

this is some scary stuff ... Its like gambling ... You either get Produced which is like winning the Jackpot or you wait and dont know whats going on while your deposit sits safely in the dealers hands :( I'm a little scared for my order right now lol

Ur right once u go to 2000 that means the dealer had an allocation and there were no constraints otherwise the order wouldn't go thru. The reason some are stayingat 3000 longer is to do with the color, engine and options. per week they know how many 6cyl 8 cyl how many of a certain color how many of with or without rs. so its just a random amount of things that could let some go over others. it looks like most the time your at 3000 for bout a month for the most part

It's a launch vehicle and they're trying the best they can. I think it has to do with similar colors and equipment being built at the same time causing the issues.

i kinda figured it might be something like that where they run a batch of rs package cars or same color cars or transmissions as i know nothing i ordered is on constraint at this moment. it seems to be a month is the longest i have seen at 3000 right now which is fine it wont be that long once it gets past 3000 from what i have seen on others order codes

3000 = ready for GM to place into a build schedule...


anything past 3000 means that it has been scheduled and should move at a regular pace .... unless it gets bayed for a QC hold.

it says accepted by production control. which i would think means its at the plant waiting to be scheduled. the next couple seem to go pretty fast after 3000 from some peoples updates lately. personally for me to have ordered the end of april and be at 3000 already i am more than happy at this point. i know the dealer i ordered through had 31 allocations as he is one of the larger dealers in the country. and has already had 9 built.
