Monsoon Wiring Help (rear 6.5" speakers)

I recently got my hands on a 2000 Formula—I'll properly announce the vehicle later in a build thread—and have removed my rear speakers. There is a black and a red wire that attach to the top and bottom of the Monsoon speakers. I have a set of Pioneer speakers that only have 1 connection. How do I wire my new speakers?

I assume that you are talking about the speakers in the rear sail panel (back seat area). These are dual voice coil subwoofers. Not only that, they carry a 2 ohm load. If you want to replace them, you will have to find a set of sub woofers that are 2 ohm, dual voice coil.

Any other setup (like the speakers you have) will not sound good at all in that spot AND they will only produce bass (been there, done that in my 98 TA).

Now, there are a set of 4" speakers in the rear hatch that are 4ohm and single voice coil. If you are totally sure you want to run your 6.5" speakers in the sail panels, you can run the wires from those speakers and power your pioneer speakers in the sail panel area.

It is totally up to you what you want to do, it is your car.

Also, these may help....

I put all new speakers in my Camaro SS. I still run the stock head unit and amp. Granted isn't not competition quality, but it sounds damn good and is good enough for my useage (bass is nice too). I'm very happy with it and others are impressed that a simple speaker upgrade sounds as good as it does.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I will help you out any way that I can (outside of cash...lol).

I haven't swapped out the sail panel speakers. I was talking about the rear passenger speakers behind the doors.

After some experimenting, and destroying at least one of my original speakers, I concluded that 2 of the wires attaching to those speakers are unnecessary. The sound is the same when they are cut, so I secured 1 pair of positive and negative cables and used the other pair to power my Pioneers. They sound good.

Now I just need a sub for that empty hole in the driver side trunk.
