There's a tech bulletin on it and a known issue. Its also a very easy fix.

I had the same problem. It was a gasket issue. This was 1 month after my oil pump went..

ya i am not really mad but more disappointed. just not sure how a modern new car can have such a known leaking problem. makes me wonder how a tested car from GM can have this problem. i understand if it was rare, but from what i heard its rather common.

I just had that done three weeks ago by the dealer then after that i smelled burning oil for the week i drove and took it back to the dealer then it was a oil pan gasket leak as well. Kinda makes me think it was that originally. It happens this is what warrentys are for.

Get ready for several visits.

When mine leaked they said that GM makes them replace the gaskets first. Many times the gaskets are fine and the cooler itself is the issue.

Once they waste one trip on the gaskets, they schedule for the cooler replacement. This assumes that you don't get the usual story about the part being on back order.

Hopefully your adventure will end there. Others like myself and a few in this thread continued on with oil pans, oil pan gaskets and rear main seals.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

You have been around, I am surprised that you are surprised to find the oil cooler leak. It is not an uncommon problem with the SS. Check your oil pan for leak also.

its sad to say that i was surprised i didn't find a leak tell now. i had a feeling for a while that there is good chance it was leaking.

again i wanted to report it. so when GM takes a look at the forums they can see more people talking about it. so it makes it easy for on warrnety work maybe.

It doesn't matter. I printed out the threads on oil leaks back when I had my issues and the dealer ignored it. They said that their sources in GM have never heard of the problem nor did the dealer. At that time, they told me the GM procedure when a customer comes in with an oil leak from the oil cooler (wouldn't that suggest that they have seen it before?). They start with the cooler gaskets and go from there.

Keep us updated and I hope it goes smoothly for you.
