Changed my rear differential oil and ?

Changed my rear differential oil 1 32oz GM Synthetic gear oil and 1 GM bottle of modifier . Still looked as not full ? so I added a couple oz of ford modifier I had and that seem to top it off. Now I take it adding a little more off brand modifier (friction fighter) will not hurt it.

Hmmm, the rear diff only holds 32oz (1qt). Where'd it all go???? I just did mine as well. I put 3 oz of friction modifier in and pumped in just shy of a qt and it began to leak out the top hole.

The GM friction modifier bottle holds 4 oz and the manual only calls for 2.5 oz to be added. How much "extra" are we talking here? I really don't see it hurting it, but just curious how much "extra" you put in there, lol.

32 oz Gm black bottle gear oil. And the small modifier . I spilled ? 2 to 3 oz at the most .

and then maybe 3 oz of the ford modifier . I did not want to by more gear oil. I had the
Ford stuf laying around. So I should be good. They all stink also.

If this is the case then you'll be fine however in the future this is completely unnecessary.

Too much modifier can affect how the posi works. You may not be getting the lock up you should. I put the minimum in and if it still chatters add a bit until it quits.

Drained and refilled with GM modifier (3/4 of a bottle ) and almost a 32 of GM gear lube.
Dealer gave me capacity sheet.
V8 all .079 quart friction modifier =2.528 oz is my guess.
.975 quart base lubricant (31.? oz)

Now I can sleep at night.

Quantity

Hello, I changed my diff.fluid last Saturday (14k miles).

Few questions.

1) Quantity

I used a manual pump with a long rubber pipe going into the filling hole. I drained all the fluid and then I mixed 1 quart of GM (AC delco) oil with 2.5 oz of friction modifier.
After squezzing the pump all the way down, I couldnt pump the fluid left in the pipe into the hole so in the end I didn't put in about 2 ounces of fluid. Should I be worried? I checked the level by putting into the hole the tip of a small iron stick and the fluid was there. I didn't see any fluid coming out while filling the oil housing though. The car was on a perfectly flat level.
Do you think I' better buy another quart of oil and put in the missing 2 ounces?

2) Plugs
are the draining plug and the filling plug identical?

Tks!

Naw I wouldn't worry about it the last 2 oz. The V8 differential holds almost exactly 1 quart. If you mix 1 quart of lube plus 2.5 oz of the modifier then you should have 2.5 oz left over when you feel it completely full.

I am pretty sure the plugs are identical. If they wasn't you would have noticed when you went to put them back in.
