I'm almost positive (anyone correct me if I'm wrong) that if you attempt to shift when you shouldn't be shifting, the car won't allow you to. In order to avoid any damage

Do it just like you would do with a stick shift , the only thing is that , even if you wanted to do stupid shifts , the systems wont let you do i---SHIFT DENIED ---- will shows on the DIC , really ,go ahead and try it for yourself .

I usually shift around 2500-3000 rpms. The computer won't let you do anything catastrophic, so don't stress that.

Hope that helps.

you can safely try this is your driveway..sitting at idle...tap shift with car in gear and foot on brake..it will only let you go to 1,2,,,and i think thats it.."shift denied" or it may go to 3rd..but that is it..have fun...

If you forget to shift, there is a rev. limiter.

It's a little like wiggling the floor or column shifter to manually shift earlier automatics that didn't have the paddles, only better (especially for downshifts).

Exactly when to shift depends on the situation. Like oldfriend said, drive it like you would a stick shift. Eventually, you'll learn to shift at reasonably appropriate times.

You'll need to be a little more aware of what the engine wants, so you'll be paying attention to the engine's sound and/or any vibrations to indicate whether you're in the right gear for any given situation.

The computer will prevent you from doing anything that going to "hurt" the engine. Just try it out and have fun, worst thing that might happen is you might get jurked around alittle bit if you shift into a lower gear and let off the gas. Wont hurt anything though! Have fun :P

I've accidentally downshifted to 1st before and it wound 'er up more than I was comfortable with. Maybe 6K+...But I guess it has its programmed limits.

Step 1: Place foot on pedal and push firmly to floor... Step 2: Press right side tap shift button (or paddle if so equipped) when tachometer reaches redline... Step 3: Repeat Step 2... Step 4:Grin...

Seriously though... I use mine from time to time when I want to play around. I will take it up to redline playing around, but if I am just driving around I usually shift from 3000-4000 Also, with the Trifecta tune it makes the shifts firmer in the Sport & Manual modes.

My wife drove automatics only for the first year or so after getting her license (1970), so I guess I can understand that ↑↑↑. When you don't have to put as much conscious thought into the rest of the driving skills, it'll be easier for you to work this in just like it was for her to pick up driving with a clutch pedal. Caution - manually controlling the transmission may become habit-forming.

You do realize that your mind does not have to be in "race mode" to use the paddles, and you don't have to upshift all the way to 6th gear every time . . .

When you come right down to it, city surface street driving and 25 mph suburban neighborhood driving really isn't much fun. Mostly, it's just something you have to put up with, no matter what kind of transmission you have or how you choose to operate it.
