Possible move to Norway

I'm looking for a bit of advice - I'm considering a possible move to Stavanger, Norway in the not-too-distant future. Anybody in the forum who can give me some info on issues with taking my ZL1 with me? I'm not worried about the cost of actually shipping it there, and I realize it would be garaged for about half the year. I'm mainly wondering about things like servicing, road taxes, possible upgrades/changes required to satisfy European emissions and safety requirements, etc. Thanks for any advice!

Hi there, cool if there is coming one more ZL1 to Norway
I live in Norway and there is some requirements you have to do.

1 : it has to be paid VAT(value added tax) to get the car into country this is apporx 25 k

2 : it need to be changed to europeen tail lights, cover the red light on the side of the tail bumper. Stamp the VIN number inside the engine room (right side on top of shock absorvers, and test it for co and nox values, to calculate the tax ( this has to be done in sweden)

3 : And the worst is the insane tax the norwegian goverment is claming, as per date the tax is apporx 230 000 $ for the ZL1

This tax don,t need to be paid at once, and you can run your car on rental plates for 15 days in the year, the tax is getting cheaper every year.
Im using the car only for show and some track use, by using rental plates.
,so one day when the tax is low enough for mine budget it will Get license plates (but the VAT has to be paid at once the car is in Norway)

Its horrible how the taxes are here in Norway, that also mean that there is very few camaro 5gen here. Its a eye catcher for sure

Regarding upgrades and service there is autorized Chevrolet dealer with service departement so thats ok.

Hope this help a little on your questions.

What does a ZL cost in American dollars over at the Chevrolet dealer and do they pay any of these taxes for you.

Its insane...., so Im really jelouse that you guys have thoose prizes.
When mine ZL1was new 2012 the tax was 300 000$ (1,6 mill nok) have not paid this. Sine this tax is gong down every year.
And with the cost of the car the total prize is apporx 400 000$. ( 2,2 mill nok)
Here in this country they praise Nissan leaf and Toyota prius (cars like that)and try to make sure no have affort to buy cars like ZL1 and high performance cars.

I paid apporx 100 k for mine as it is now. Car plus the VAT and the transport over the sea. , in 5years from now I think the tax is round 100 000 $ and them I may thinking to get license plates on it

The chevrolet dealer is not selling Camaro's in Norway, only on import, because of the insane tax, the market is the like zero, only die hard enthusiast buy it
. And the car has to have an title to ship it over, means second hand car. ( can not buy Complete new from the chevrolet dealer in USA.)

But in germany, sweden they are selling europe spec gen 5 camaro(not ZL1)

So chevrolet dealer is not covering any taxes since it is the goverment that is claming this.

Ok so bringing your car there is equivalent to buying a Z28, Stingray, Copo Camaro, Suburban LT loaded.
Gasoline $9.00 a gal.
I think that is why there is only one over there.
Good luck..

Wow, thanks for the very detailed reply! I'll have to really think it over - I'd love to have the ZL1 in Norway, but the taxes will probably be a deal breaker! I was expecting a hefty cost to get it there and some updates like you'd mentioned (I've lived in Europe for 8 years in previous jobs), but I never dreamed it would be that kind of cost. Thanks again!
