I watched it today. That was a different version then what I saw. The one i saw was where all of the right rear lugs broke off.

They wanted to see if it was true that with enough speed the square wheels would ride as smooth as round wheels. It didn't happen.

This clip is altered. I saw the show too and you are correct. I also saw the 2 cars stuck together from the fronts, that was interesting.

I'd say that was successful, a Ford was damaged in the process.

They did 2 tests. The first was with the faces of all 4 wheels aligned so that the flat face would be down on all the wheels at the same time. The other, which I believe this clip is from, had each wheel offset by 22.5 degrees.
