Siphon fuel

Ok before you say go burn it up, here is my situation. I have a full tank of gas now. I am going to a car show this saturday, and they state I can only have less than a 1/4 tank of fuel because this is an indoor car show.

So I tried to siphon the gas out of the tank and it is impossible to do. Has anyone ever tried to do this? On the positive note, if I spent over an hour trying to do this in my garage, nobody else can steal our gas if you car in on the street.

I really don't know of any reason you couldn't siphon the fuel. Maybe you aren't doing it right...?

I knew someone would say that. I am planning on going out of town and burning some gas. Here is another reason why it won't work.

$10 vampire/ pump from Autozone should work... or, I would assume that siphoning using something small (like surgical tubing) should work... slow, but should eventually get the unleaded out.

Wow that's cool. Good to know. Physically can be done just need a line small enough to get by that ball which makes it not worth trying.

Only Issue I am seeing with this is if someone has a 3/4" dowel rod they can easily push that ball down into the tank and siphon gas.....

Where this is a will there is a way...

If your gas had a straight line that might work, but the tube is curved.

That ball is called a "rollover valve", and does just that: prevents fuel from coming out of the filler neck if your car ends up upside down.

My solution was to screw a line onto the fuel pressure test port and feed it to your capturing receptacle. Then you need to jumper the fuel pump relay so it stays on, and the fuel pump will pump out the fuel for you. The process takes a bit of time, but works.

Just go to the show and don't worry about it. Had my car transported to my new location, (free transfer by company) and it said same thing, 1/4 tank fuel only. Nobody cared.

Siphoning is easy. All you have to do is stick the (pliable) tube down into the tank, give it a quick "suck" and it forms a vacuum. It will drain it dry if the tube is in the right spot. I drain my hot tub like this all the time.
