Tuners.....
Hello,
Im having some issues with my ZL1. As of right now my car is putting down 665whp with 2.55 and a 9.1 and a few other goodies. The issue im having is with the IAT's. I live in Puerto Rico and it very hot down here. When im drag racing the car the car starts pulling time in 3rd gear because of it sensing IAT's over 150+. Has any of you experieced this situation, and what have you done to solve this. Btw, my car has heat exchanger also. I was thinking of adding water/meth to lower the IATs. What do you guys think. Thanks, My car is running 11.3@125 and it pulls around 5-6 degrees of timing when I hit third and fourth gear. |

My concern is that I have been reading that the meth will hurt the coating on the inside of the supercharger.

However, on the ZL1 I would not use a Water/Meth mixture - I would use Pure Methanol - that is the route most people have used, and that is what is being installed on my car currently. Using Straight Meth and no water is better as it burns off quicker - plus you get better performance You already have the upgraded heat exchanger - I'm guessing a bigger reservoir too - so adding meth to the mix will keep those IAT's down during boost!

I would run the chiller on this car. no other fluids to buy and IAT's are very low.

Don't run water/meth combination.. At your HP levels run straight methanol. It will not hurt the rotors, that has been the same rumor since the year 2000.. Been doing a TON of installs/tuning on top mount rotor-style/twin screw with the methanol kits for years not one single problem. A few of my close colleagues/friends in the business run straight methanol on top-mount/rotor/roots style blowers for many years also.
The Active Interchiller Superchiller will also help, as it will keep the fluid running through a lot cooler. The methanol however, will drop IAT's in the 60-80* consistently, then on top of that it also adds the detonation protection of having a lot higher octane on tap. When I tune for methanol, I just adjust fuel, I don't add timing from my base 93 pump tune, and we normally see a 4-6% gain of rwhp from just adding the IAT control, now amplify that by the ambient heat. The higher the HP the less effective the liquid cooling will be, this is where methanol comes in OR running a race gas that will take the high IAT's. C16 will take 250-300* in IATs as long as you have some decent timing in it, 93 octane pump will never take that kind of heat. |

Thank you all for your info. I guess meth it is and a I will also add a large reservoir for the HX.
