Gear swap and speedometer change
So, after reading all the different thoeries that are posted on this site and none that I can find a definitive answer on here is my question. Will adding 3.91 to my LS3 set off any CEL or stabilitrack lights without a re-calibration to the speedo?
Next question is there a cheap way to re-cal the speedo without a tune? In other words I dont want to spend the $$ on a tune just for the gear calibration. This is the only mod so far. I'm ok for now with the speedo reading faster than the car is going, I just don't want my dash lit up like a x-mas tree. Thanks guys. |

Won't your odometer also show more mileage than you're actually accumulating?

You will need to recalibrate it with something like HP Tuners. There is no way around this.
If you're doing something like a gear change why not just tune the car? It's a Chevy! You don't need a warranty!!

The gear change itself, if done properly, will NOT set off any CEL or Stabilitrak lights. It will however cause your speedometer to be inaccurate, and your odometer will accumulate more mileage than what you're really putting on the car. The ONLY fix is to have it tuned. Depending on where you go to have it done, if you only want the items calibrated to fix your speedometer and odometer, you probably won't have to pay as much as if you were getting a "performance" tune. But.....you're in there anyway....you might as well do it all.....because either way it is most likely going to void your entire powertrain warranty. Talk to your dealership about it, some are more mod-friendly than others. But in most cases, any alteration to the stock computer settings is an automatic void of the warranty.....just so you know.

It would take under 10 min. to read your stock tune and change your ratio for proper speedo calibration. But, the price may depend on where you go, what tuning system they use and if licensing fees are involved. Higher volume shops will most likely have purchased licensing for unlimited vehicles and may be able to get you hooked up for cheaper than a low volume shop that may have to single license (HP tuners as example) your vehicle, which by itself costs ~$100.

Look into Dakota Digital. They may have a plug in that might work.
