who prepped their own cars?

When I picked up my 2SS I had them leave the plastic on everything, I kept all the plastic and build sheets and what not and I also asked them not to drill the front bumper cover and not to wash or wax it..................

anyone else have their dealers keep their hands off their car??

I absolutely did. They check the fluids and tire pressure and did a spin around the parking lot to make sure it did not fall apart. Washed it twice with Meguires shampoo and conditioner. Clay bar, and NXT. Did the interior with Surf City Dash Away. I love my car and the guy at the lot making 7.00 per hour could give a rats ass about my baby boy. Cant fault him and I am sure he does more expensive cars than mine but who cares.

mine is not here yet and YES i will be taking off the plastic and no dealer detailing... i did the same thing when i got my C6.... got to see any flaws before they could be hidden with polish....

once i drove off whatever flaws i did find i had to correct myself (dealer was not liable after i left the lot - something i wanted also - whats fair is fair)

thats the down side and would NOT recommend it - your best bet is to look at the car good BEFORE you leave the lot and document anything you want taken care of.....

once you drive off - if you find a scratch or nick or some minor flaw it will be tuff to get the dealer to correct it -

major things that are covered under the warranty are not a problem... cosmetic things are hard to claim AFTER you drive the car away.....

they did check the mechanicals (fluids and whatever they are required to do) and they will be doing that....

That's what worries me. I know these cars have been arriving "dirty" from the shipping process, etc. But how dirty? Too dirty that you can't see any scratches or anything? Might want to hose it off or something at the dealership at least I guess.

I had them leave everything on the car and let me remove all the shipping plastic. My dealer never argued with me and even said he would have done the same thing. Your dealer should not give you any grief.

My car was not that dirty. It was in a covered train car and then put in a covered truck trailer to the dealership, very little dirt.

I might do the same and just do the detailing myself. Although a brand new 40k car shouldnt need much cleaning IMO other than dirt from shipping.

My dealer actually suggested that they not remove anything from the car...just a quick PDI, no wash job, and locked it up until I got there. One heads-up as your cars arrive, my tires were inflated to 55 pounds air pressure and the ride was a bit harsh until I figured out the D.I.C. and saw what was going on with the air pressure.

Aside from some bird droppings (probably while it was in QC) the car was reasonably free of serious dirt and grit.

I told my dealer a long time ago to leave all the plastic on the car and stickers on the glass. I will detail it myself, if it ever gets out of QC and put on a damn train. Day 34 since build, still there. 12 days since John Fitzpatrick told me they would get my car out of there within 10 days.
