Vararam wet!

I just got off work, drove home, and opened the hood to find the whole area around my vararam wet. I'm assuming the filter itself is wet too. I've only had it a few days but everyone else said that in pouring down rain they only experienced droplets, and I have a lot more than droplets. Should i be worried?

I have experience hydrolocking cars. Unfortunately.

Did you get a CEL? Just take it off and looks inside. should be fine, with out a factory air box inplace we do get moisture around the air filter. if the water does get by the filter the MAF will cause a cel, maybe reduce engine output or stall. thats what I have learned from mine.

No cel.
Does it take a significant amount of water to cause damage?

Did you have the Vararam before the SC? If so, did you ever stall because of water?

Reason I ask, is I have the Injen (over 40k miles on it) and twice in last 6 months mine stalled in extremely heavy downpours (visibility less than 50 feet). Both times I found foam in the tube from water getting in somehow. I am running the stock air box now until I figure out what new intake to get. Vararam is my top choice, but if the Vararam has stalling issues in downpours too, I will go with something else.

how much water is wet? I've seen a few drops on the housing around the filter, but not enough to be concerned with

Not always. I've had two MAF sensors ruined by condensation build up from the RX chiller and a cel never came on. The only sign was a misfire under load every so often and then finally multiple misfires every second, sounded like I had a cam. Finally it got so bad that the engine wouldn't even start. Luckily it was just the MAF sensor.

Sent from my SAMSUNG Galaxy S III using telekinesis.

Moisture around the perimeter is a none issue , the unit was designed for it. This is why there is over an inch seperation from the scoop to the plenum. The system sits at a angle ( downhill). The filter inlet is raised up 1 inch above the plenum floor. This creates a moat around the filter ,and there is also a hole in the rear of the plenum for maf cooling and extra drainage if needed.

Thanks for the reassurance. I love my vararam. I was just a little freaked out because my last camaro was hydrolocked. I've since driven it with no problems
