Ordering a ZL1 from the factory
Two questions, really.
First, I guess I'm not really sure how long they will continue to produce the 2013 ZL1's. Does anyone know approximately the latest date you could still order a ZL1 from the factory? Heck, I've never really looked into ordering from the factory before either. Can I do that from any dealership, or do I need to find one with an allotment. Need to start researching this.

Steve,
Start with your local Chevy Dealership... ask them if they have an allocation available to order a ZL1 built to the specifications you want. Go to chevy website first and choose build your ZL1 .. so you can determine what specifications you want like color, wheel options, manual or automatic, carbon fiber hood insert or painted, and so on... Determine if they have an allocation available they will order one for you but find out if they would sell it to you at msrp or better (under Msrp which i doubt they will do but can't hurt to ask.. dont pay above MSRP if you can avoid it) they will likely ask you to put a check deposit on an order to have one built for you and shipped to their dealership for you to purchase it. Good luck. Mil |

Have you tried looking at your local dealers lots to see what they have setting there? You may find exactly the one you want without having to order it.
Congrats on your journey! It's going to be a fun one for sure!

Plus, it won't be until later this year until I can actually make the purchase. So I'm not sure anything in stock now will be around by then.

It sounds like you could wait until they are taking 2014 orders. I would suggest talking to a local dealer about getting an allocation for next MY orders.

I haven't been checking this thread regularly and will search as well...but are the 2014 ZL1's going to change much from the 2013?

I don't think there will be any change for the 2014 ZL1 but it will be interesting to see what they add for the SS model.

So...finding a dealership that I can use an allotment to order directly from the factory doesn't seem as straightforward as going to the dealership. Point is, I've never ordered a car from the factory before. It'd be nice to get exactly the car I want.

Finding a dealer with an allotment when you are ready to buy is going to be the biggest issue. You can place an order tomorrow but nothing will happen until the dealer gets a allotment. It could be days, weeks, months, if at all. I was lucky and they got one 2 weeks after I ordered it.
Also make sure you check with the dealer about the price. I heard some places are actually dealing others are charging sticker and others are going well and above sticker. I got for sticker price, told the dealer I wouldn't pay over sticker. Some dealers told me they would have to pay over sticker just to get one because they were a smaller dealer and they would have to actually acquire it from another dealer. |

We were told by our dealer that the 2013 model year build out for the Camaro is May. Any orders accepted with a TPW after May will be a 2014 model year. That of course is subject to GM accepting orders for 2014 Camaros. Our GAZ 6Spd car was ordered 1/12...accepted by GM 2/1...with a TPW of 3/4...which is next week!
Super excited!FYI...when we ordered our car, the dealer did not have allocation. However, they had previously sold three ZL1's. They were told that sold orders take preference, and that if they just waited for allocation, it probably wouldn't happen. We decided to give them a deposit and we waited...VOILÀ GM accepted the order! We were also graced by the dealer and given dealer invoice pricing on the ZL1. Great guys! |

I am not new to ordering cars, but I was in the same boat as far as when I wanted to order the car.
The biggest thing with putting in an order for a car is the fact that with delays and part supplies you may be waiting for a while before the car comes in. You may not have this problem depending how much pull your GM dealership has with head office. If you can stand the wait, no problem, find one with at least the most options you want and then get it. I am looking at an 8 to 12 month waiting time to get the car and was told it would probably end up as a 2014. I didn’t want to put my order in this soon, but if it takes a year to get the car that would be about the time I would put the order in for it anyway. I didn’t want to put an order in for the car at the end of this year and then have to wait another one before I could get the car. |
