Question Universal Hi Flow Cats

Has anyone installed universal hi flow cats other then solo? Were there any noticeable gains? Did you throw any CELs? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen a couple companies that make universal hfc like magnaflow i just dont know how good they are..They are a third the price of the solos starting at about 100 a piece.. I guess i might have to be the guinea pig on this one..

Only experience I have with after market hi flo cats was with Dynomax. I had a 5.2 dakota with a super 44 muffler. Sounded good but i wanted it opened up more. Summit racing had a dynomax hi flow uni. cat. it was 50 bucks. Completely opened the exhaust up like I wanted. Curious if I could make that cat fit on a 5th gen camaro then that'd be the ticket.

I dont think there would be HUGE gains with hi flow cats maybe 2hp to 3tq or something. But thats just a guess.

FYI,

SOLO cats showed a 15rwhp difference on the dyno compared to before. Its the HFCs that give most of the gains in a LT header setup....not the primaries themselves. Of course not all cats are built the same, so can't say what other HFCs would do.

I read about some tests that were done last summer of someone who compared partial cat del to high flow cat total replacement. The difference was within only 1-2hp at most consistently.

Therefore, I only went for a partial CAT delete removing only the smaller cats and leaving the larger ones intact.

1. The difference in sound was incredible!

2, No CEL from doing this mod what so ever.

3. I picked up a couple HP figures as well.

4. Most importantly, it costed me like only $125 total at a local shop to get this done.

Great mod all around.

No idea how restrictive the stock Camaro's are, but 15rwhp from cat's alone sounds iffy?

Can't believe no one has mentioned this yet, if you are buying cats, make sure they are Metallic!! Ceramic are crap, and tend to shatter. A 200cpsi Metallic cat will flow more than a 200cpsi ceramic cat.

From what ive read these exhaust arnt very restrictive. Personally im very imressed other then they lack just a bit of bit from factory still. regardless cats will open it up now where or not whos is better idk but 15wrhp is big... an im kind of questing this.

I don't see why everyone is so shocked that going with a good HFC like SOLO can yeild a decent power gain, when LT headers are showing up to 20rwhp at times (usually more like 15 - 18 range).

Its the cats that are giving a big part of those gains, not just the tubes.

Just going off what I know, seems a bit high but I've never seen the stock exhaust setup so just my opinion. Aussie dyno's tend to read lower than others as well.
