Great brakes... but...

With just a rc hair less of 2 months ownership, I was in traffic and had to give my brakes a good test in their ability to stop quickly... and I just managed not to hit the person in front of me. Yay! But while breathing a sigh of relief... bang! Yep, got rear-ended. And even though I was just a rc hair from hitting the person in front of me, it didn't budge forward at all, the back just lifted up a little bit.

Luckily? there isn't too much damage, small scratch, rubbing, and it looks like the exhaust or that panel it goes through got a little shifted. Now I get to find out how much damage a relatively minor rear-ender costs, not that I'm going to be the one paying for it. Ugh.

that sucks...even minor stuff has a way of becoming really expensive. so it was just cosmetic damage to the bumper cover and your rear diffuser (the exhaust panel) popped loose?
at least you didn't pushed up into the guy you just avoided rear-ending!

I had the same happen to me in my SS a while back, it's amazing how fast you can get these cars to stop when you grab a gear and hit the binders at the same time. Just wished the other cars behind me were able to do the same.

I think these cars hide the internal damage pretty well on a rear end impact from what Ive read, but it's what's underneath the flexing panels that will be the real story.... Hope it truly is a minor issue, but don't be surprised if there's more to it than the exterior marks...

Yeah, that chrome insert that the exhaust pushes out of looks out-of-whack. The black molding or whatever it is, that goes from the bumper and looks like it attaches to the bottom of the mufflers, one side had the fastener pop out.

Doesn't look so bad, I was expecting worse, and that's the first time I've been in a wreck where someone was pretty much going under me. Felt like I was in a pit stop getting a tire change. Certainly didn't think it would happen in this car... maybe I need to get it lowered...

Yep, and I forgot to mention that it rained earlier so the roads weren't exactly dry. I don't think I skidded at all, just plain stopped like a Roadrunner cartoon. Amazing really... but yeah, unfortunately the guy behind me wasn't in an SS too.

i live in so cal where people think you can go 95 in the pouring rain and tailgate. I get in the center lane and cruise at a decent speed. tap the brakes to keep my distance from the guy in front and to let the other person know...

doesnt always work.. but when it does.. lol..

sorry to hear bout the bump!!

Now imagine if the guy behind you had GM brakes, you'd be all set and no problems.
